Christ turned the definition of human greatness in a profound direction. Jesus modeled greatness by humbling himself in coming to earth and dying on the cross ( Php 2:5-11 ). Jesus made this perspective clear in his teachings. When the disciples asked who is the greatest in the kingdom, Jesus answered by bringing a child into their midst and declaring that even admission into the kingdom depended on a similar attitude of humility ( Matt 18:1-4 ).
The mother of James and John asked if her boys could sit on the right and left hands of Jesus in the kingdom. The other disciples became upset with the brothers. Jesus used the occasion to say that the one who wanted to be great among them had to be their servant ( Matt 20:26 ; 23:11 ). 25But Jesus called them to Himself and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who are great exercise authority over them. 26 Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. 27 And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave”” 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”

JQ-
Wether David, Joseph, Moses, etc… they all had to learn to obey through suffering- even Jesus …
Learning to obey that still small voice, His voice, which leads us to serve and the greater our service the greater our life in Christ:)
The only "destined” I find in the scriptures is a "predestination” of those who are born again to be conformed to the image of Christ.
Remember, if you’ve received from the Lord, on that day He will ask you just as with the ten talents … what did you do with it ? and be rewarded proportionally-
