Thanks you for sharing you thoughts on Job. Job is a character I am very interested in. The reason for this interest stems from what I heard the Holy Spirit whisper to me.
Most people who leave bible school go on to work in the ministry. But the church/bible school I was apart of had become abusive and it came to the point that I could no longer continue to be a member. I didn’t take this decision lightly and had been suffering greatly in my mind, you could call it spiritual warfare.
As I left the church and crossed the road that day, I start to pray to let God know I was never going back to that church, I also prayed about the calling on my life, saying Father I know you have a calling on my life, I don’t know how you will do it but I believe you, you have said it and you will do it. As I finished the prayer, I heard the Holy Spirit whisper "you’ll be like Job”
That's not what I wanted to hear, but that is what I heard. Looking back in time thinking about that moment it started right there. I lost all my friends from the church that I had been attending as I was shunned as the people was told to stay clear of me and my family. I later went on to break out in blister like sores, losing all the money I had, not once, but twice and eventually losing one of my Sons.
Some things about Job - his name means "persecuted”
Job didn’t belong to the tribes of Israel; he was "the greatest of the men of the East” Job wasn’t an Israelite; he was a Gentile.
The best scholars can do is place Uz in the "East," possibly in Edom. There is a little more information in the Greek and Latin versions of the Book of Job. There, it states that Job dwelt in Ausitis on the confines of Idumea and Arabia. It continues that his original name was Johab. He married an Arabian woman and fathered Ennon. Job's father was Zerah who was from the lineage of Esau ”“ five generations from Abraham. They were natives of Bozrah. The text continues that Job reigned in Edom succeeding Balak, the son of Beor. In the Hebrew Bible, Balaam is the son of Beor.
God’s dealings with Job were not because he was self-righteous. When God permitted suffering to come to Job, He did it for a very wise purpose. We are often taught that Job received this correction as discipline from God because he was self-righteous. But God says just the opposite! Three times the Scripture announces it: Job is perfect and upright; he is one who fears God; and he eschews (that is, has nothing to do with evil Job 1:1,8;2:3. And God Himself says twice to the arch-enemy of our souls, "Have you considered my servant Job, perfect and upright?” Job 1:8; 2:3 "Ah,” you say, "no one is perfect.” Well, you can contradict God if you like, but I dare not do that.
We may ask why God gave in to Satan proposal by handing Job and all he has to him: why?
The answer is that God wanted to enlarge Job spiritually through suffering. The way to grow spiritually is not by taking a Bible course; it’s not by going to a Bible college; it’s not by attending such and such a seminar or conference, good or not as those things may be in themselves. You will not grow one tiny fraction of an inch spiritually by taking those courses. Increasing your mental knowledge of truth does not enlarge your spiritual capacity.
The only way God can enlarge your spiritual capacity is by tribulation, by chastening. God does not say, "Take a Bible course or come to Sunday School in order that you may be a partaker of My holiness.” God says that He chastens us so "that we might be partakers of His holiness” Hebrews 12:10. All those other things may enlighten our minds and enlarge our mental understanding of God’s truth and His will, but in no wise do they perfect the soul. They are nothing regarding holiness.
I am sure you’ll have noticed on sermon index that I go on and on about Holiness every chance I get, I will discuss this subject - why? When I was covered in blister like sores, I committed to Fast and pray and at the end of the time of prayer ”“ God answered and opened a door ”“ to a deeper work of the Spirit through the testimony of Duncan Campbell and got into my hands a book called Holiness the Key to Revival.
God’s purpose was to enlarge Job. God did something in this man’s life ”“ scripture says, "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God”. Matthew 5:8 Now listen to Jobs’ confession "I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee”. Job 42:8. Job is opened up to a new dimension where he can see God and on seeing the creator of heaven and earth Job this perfect and upright man cries "I abhor myself and repent in dust and ashes” God enlarges our capacity by tribulation.
