TEXT: PSALM 90:12
''So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.''
That every man shall give a detail account to God of every minute that life affords him, is a truth that gores me into frantic fear; to not frequently muse upon the day a man will stand to be asked by God as to how his life on earth was spent, promotes or hastens carelessness and sloppiness in the matter of godliness. Life, like a ferry boat, glides on unnoticed by the sons of men: this would continued until God step in to teach them how to number their days. The cry and hue of earthly cares,--what to eat, drink, wear and where to lay the head,--are so oppressive and exclusive, that man is forced to mind nothing but his comfort and ease, even at the risk of his eternal soul. He is wise who strives to know God's intention for a gift of time, even a minute; for only a fool would suppose that God is prodigal with any of His gift, especially the gift of time. Many there are, who pray for long life and prosperity, that hitherto cannot boldly account for the days agone given to them by God. Many ask for elongation of life, so that they can spend them in sin and laziness. Elongation of life is only needful if it is for the improvement and spreading of the life of grace. Any who ignores the throne of grace in time, will be revenged on by the throne of Judgement when time shall be no more. To be continued
