TEXT: GENESIS 3:15
''And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel'' KJV
"And I will put enmity (open hostility) Between you and the woman, And between your seed (offspring) and her Seed; He shall [fatally] bruise your head, And you shall [only] bruise His heel.” AMP
The words in our text: 'And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed' illustrate a practical truth in God's sovereign rule in the affairs of men. God can plant enmity or hatred in between two of His creature in His infinite wisdom, either as an expression of His anger or for the good of His people. God rules men's emotions and passions; who He chooses to love us, would irresistibly love us with no obvious reason; in the same breath, He can stir a creature against another! Our entire text is a sentence passed on sin: this enmity so planted, is a judgement against Satan and man. Christians, when enmity is sighted in any heart against us, our duty is not to pay back injury with injury: we are to go back to God in prayer to remove the bitter plant from such heart. No heart is too hard for God to change. Jesus says, whatever three not planted by His Father, shall be uprooted: as God can plant passion of any kind in man, so the enemy of man's soul can plant hatred. Amongst brethren, discord and rancour have been planted by bitter spirits to the shaming of the gospel of Christ. Satan specialises in planting and growing enmity amongst relations: betwixt husband and wife; sister and brother, even between two Nations. Let us come to terms with this sobering truth: in sending a creature against another, God plants hatred in the one to be sent. God can make a lion to hunt another lion for food, by simply planting another nature in it. He can plant a disgust for a darling sin in our heart, with the result that even the thought of the least of that sin makes us sick. The entrance of Jesus, is the beginning of hatred for sin! God can put love between us and prayer, reading and any other holy duty, as He did enmity between the serpent and the woman; and between their seeds.
