The loss of zeal for the Presence does not happen overnight. It is small human concessions and adaptations that cause us to lose sight of the responsibility to guard the purity of worship. We are all susceptible, and we all can and should reevaluate ourselves.
Here's some points for self-reflection: When do I know I'm losing interest in presence?
1) When I treat worship as something predictable and "controllable”. Worship is so much more than a timed sequence of songs. Genuine praise goes extravagant, and leads to an authentic place where amazing and unprecedented things can happen under the direction of the Spirit.
2) When I think about people’s opinion more than God’s opinion about my worship. The essence of worship is to bring an offering that pleases God, and if we are attached to the need to please people or thinking too much about their opinion, we will let this steal the sincerity of our offering to the Lord.
3) When I don’t involve God in my decision process about praise. Self-sufficiency makes its own plans without seeking to be sensitive. But the jealous heart asks, "Lord, what do you have for today? What's in Your heart? How can I partner with what you want to do in worship today? ".
4) When I worry about preparing externally more than internally. The time we spend preparing ourselves physically (clothes, appearance, "style") in relation to internal preparation (the state of heart, focus on what the Lord is saying, concentration on worship in yourself) reveals our priorities.
5) When I stop following Spirit, to follow "trends". To worship in spirit and truth is to move with the Spirit of God, not with what brings popularity. When we are consumed by tendencies and forget to prioritize the direction of the Spirit, it is a sign that it is time to return to zeal for the Presence.
