This one throws me a little- I’ll be honest. Did Moses say eye for an eye, or God?

I believe both are the counsel of God. He gave the Law through Moses ("an eye for an eye"), but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. The gracious "turning the other cheek" does not invalidate the former sentiment; instead, it gives room for GOD to repay, as vengeance belongs to Him. Only a few years after saying, "Turn the other cheek," Jesus paid for our sins with His body and blood on the cross. "An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a life for a life" was fulfilled there. Jesus satisfied the requirements of the law and gave a new commandment, to "love one another." In this there is mercy, forbearing, and forgiveness, but if there must be civil judgement between brothers in Christ it is supposed to be in the church, not in a secular court of law. I pray we shall never be placed in such a situation that we would feel impelled to bring a sibling in Christ to court...but, as you know, it does happen.
