A judge in California has ordered San Jose’s Calvary Chapel church to pay $1.2 million in fines for violating COVID lockdown rules, particularly regarding the use of masks.

The ruling was handed down by Superior Court Judge Evette Pennypacker, whose name is reminiscent of a Dickens or "Seinfeld” character, a registered Democrat appointed by former Governor Jerry Brown in 2018.

Pennypacker opined that the church should pay fines for violating Santa Clara County’s mask mandate during the peak of the pandemic.

"It should appear clear to all ”“ regardless of religious affiliation ”“ that wearing a mask while worshiping one’s god and communing with other congregants is a simple, unobtrusive, giving way to protect others while still exercising your right to religious freedom,” the judge wrote.

If that weren’t wild enough, the ruling accuses the church of risking people’s lives.

"Defendants repeatedly refused to model, much less, enforce this gesture,” Pennypacker declared.

"Instead, they repeatedly flouted their refusal to comply with the Public Health Orders and urged others to do so ‘who cares what the cost,’ including death.”

Keep in mind that this ruling was just handed down last week.

Pennypacker wasn’t claiming masks "protect others” and not wearing them leads to "death” deep in the throes of the pandemic when people were petrified and willing to trust the so-called ‘experts’ blindly.

She still clearly believes what she’s peddling. Worse, she’s punishing a church for ultimately being on the right side of history.

One has to assume that most people have finally come to the realization that these mitigation efforts aren’t what they were touted as. Whether the media or Democrats are willing to admit to that publicly is another thing.

A scientific review published by Cochrane Library in February found that "wearing a mask may make little to no difference in how many people caught a flu-like illness/COVID-like illness.”

Another study published just this past week showed that masks in hospitals ”“ one of the last places that kept enforcing the rules despite being the one place that should know better ”“ did very little to prevent the spread of COVID.

I would like to add that I was called to serve jury duty just over a year ago in San Jose (which is the county seat for Santa Clara County). This same Superior Court judge, Judge Evette Pennypacker, was the presiding judge in the trial.

During the days that I was at the courthouse, I noted that there had been a reported uptick in the number of COVID-19 cases. I had hoped that the case would be delayed and that I wouldn't have to serve jury duty.

Yet, the county's website announced that our jury pool was called to show up. While there, I noted that many people weren't wearing masks (at least all of the time). Moreover, we were forced to sit next to complete strangers in a crowded jury room for the first couple of days as the number of potential jurors continued to shrink.

While in the jury room, I overheard people mention how they weren't vaccinated -- and they hoped that this would get them out of jury duty. Yet, this didn't seem to be a problem for this particular judge or court.

Ultimately, I wasn't worried about contracting COVID. In fact, I still haven't contracted it as of today (April 15, 2023). My biggest issue with this particular trial was the utter lack of African Americans in the jury pool of a criminal trial despite the fact that the accused/defendant was African American.

How did Santa Clara County -- one of the largest counties in America -- somehow not find African American residents to potentially serve on that jury? How is that a "jury of one's peers" as stipulated by the Sixth Amendment to the United States Constitution?

Thankfully, I was dismissed from jury service by the third day. I actually received an email from Judge Pennypacker informing me of this.

Yet, in light of the judge's staunch anger at the Calvary Chapel of San Jose, it just seems so strange -- and wildly vindictive -- for this judge to fine that church a sum of $1.2 Million. Judge Pennypacker didn't seem to have a problem with the sheer volume of people -- vaccinated or not -- who were stuffed shoulder-to-shoulder inside the jury rooms.

Personally, I hope that the church appeals this all the way to the Supreme Court of the United States. Hopefully, they will find that the rights of this church were violated by a judge who was anything but impartial.
