Head Faith vs. Heart Faith:
John Wesley once said that the devil has given the church a substitute for faith, one that looks and sounds so much like faith that few people can tell the difference. This substitute he called "mental assent.” Many people read God’s Word and agree that it is true, but they are agreeing only with their minds. And that is not what gets the job done. It is heart faith that receives from God.
He said in effect, "I have come to see that so many in the church do not have heart faith. They merely menÂtally agree that the Bible is true. They mentally agree that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. They mentally agree that He died for their sins according to the Scriptures. They mentally agree that He was raised from the dead for their justification. But they do not really believe all that in their hearts. If they did, it would change their lives."
