Hi Abideinhim,
Their is no biblical term called "hyper grace".So if thats his base arguement then his foundation for anything else said is faulty. We have to argue from a biblical point of view we cant have makey uppey terms and sell them off as biblical and then have the hutzpa to start talking "heresy" when his own terms arent even biblical.
Hyper is a measurement term and we cant measure Grace;

I think is perfectly okay to name certain teachings by a new name which is not mentioned in the Bible. It makes it easier to discuss theological topics. Such as antinomianism or trinity or evangelical or Zionism or even Christianity. Paul mentioned the teachings of the Nicolaitans and the gnostics.

All these terms need to be defined but it is never easy to describe them in perfect terms. There will always be gradiens of what people understand the thing to be.

Hi Narrowpath,
The only problem with that is their is no such thing as hypergrace its just makey uppey and it is telling a lie which is that Grace can be measured. The words Zionism or the trinity are not telling a lie.Their is no such thing as Hyper grace or hypo grace ,they dont exist and are unbiblical, urs staff

While I do believe in strong grace coming from God to the sinner, I realize that it can make some feel uncomfortable because it might be perceived as promoting antinomianism. And that is the line we don't want to cross. God's strong grace should humble us and even propel us more ardently into a loving committed relationship with Jesus and not make us feel like we can do anything we want. Grace justifies the sinner and not the sin.

Here is a quote by Martin Lloyd Jones on this subject:

"The true preaching of the gospel of salvation by grace alone always leads to the possibility of this charge being brought against it. There is no better test as to whether a man is really preaching the New Testament gospel of salvation than this, that some people might misunderstand it and misinterpret it to mean that it really amounts to this, that because you are saved by grace alone it does not matter at all what you do; you can go on sinning as much as you like because it will redound all the more to the glory of grace. If my preaching and presentation of the gospel of salvation does not expose it to that misunderstanding, then it is not the gospel. Let me show you what I mean.

If a man preaches justification by works, no one would ever raise this question. If a man’s preaching is, ‘If you want to be Christians, and if you want to go to heaven, you must stop committing sins, you must take up good works, and if you do so regularly and constantly, and do not fail to keep on at it, you will make yourselves Christians, you will reconcile yourselves to God and you will go to heaven’. Obviously a man who preaches in that strain would never be liable to this misunderstanding. Nobody would say to such a man, ‘Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?’, because the man’s whole emphasis is just this, that if you go on sinning you are certain to be damned, and only if you stop sinning can you save yourselves. So that misunderstanding could never arise . . . . . .

Nobody has ever brought this charge against the Church of Rome, but it was brought frequently against Martin Luther; indeed that was precisely what the Church of Rome said about the preaching of Martin Luther. They said, ‘This man who was a priest has changed the doctrine in order to justify his own marriage and his own lust’, and so on. ‘This man’, they said, ‘is an antinomian; and that is heresy.’ That is the very charge they brought against him. It was also brought George Whitfield two hundred years ago. It is the charge that formal dead Christianity ”“ if there is such a thing ”“ has always brought against this startling, staggering message, that God ‘justifies the ungodly’ . . .

That is my comment and it is a very important comment for preachers. I would say to all preachers: If your preaching of salvation has not been misunderstood in that way, then you had better examine your sermons again, and you had better make sure that you are really preaching the salvation that is offered in the New Testament to the ungodly, the sinner, to those who are dead in trespasses and sins, to those who are enemies of God. There is this kind of dangerous element about the true presentation of the doctrine of salvation."

END OF QUOTATION

But I do believe that there is an easy believism being preached that does talk about the cross of Christ for Christ but not about a cross for us. And faith and believing in Christ is more than mere mental assent to some facts about Jesus or even accepting those facts as applying to us. The verses in the New Testament that say believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved should actually have been translated "believe INTO the Lord Jesus" which makes it less a purely mental assent thing. I actually like the word "trust" better and "allegiance" even more.

In the early New Testament church, at the baptismal service, a new convert would not only express faith in Christ and repentance from sin but would also declare his being delivered from the kingdom of darkness ruled by Satan and all the hosts of wickedness and would PLEDGE HIS ALLEGIANCE to Christ from that point forward. People who hold allegiance to Christ know they are servants of the most high God and they aren't free to live for themselves any longer.

Hi Narrowpath,

Just to grow in knowledge of the Bible, could you show me about:
"Paul mentioned the teachings of the Nicolaitans and the gnostics."
I only recall about the Nicolaitans in the book of Revelation by John but did not find it in any of Paul's letters. Also, I don't know where he mentions gnostic.
Hope I can find clarification.
Thanks

narrowpath Oct 31, 2023

Hi Robert,
you are right, there is no reference in any of the Pauline epistles to the Nicolaitans, it only appears in John's revelation.

As for gnosticm, one might say it is mentioned in verbial form in Rev 2:24 where John writes to the church in Thyatira.

But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden.

This could be seen as secret knowledge, which is a form of gnosticism.

However I must retract that the term gnosticism as such is mentioned in the bible.

Hi Narrowpath,

Thank you for your reply and clarifying.
I looked up the meaning of gnostic and it means knowledge.
You are right it has been mentioned in the Bible. Even in the Old Testament, when Pharaoh's magicians were trying to copy what the LORD did through Moses by their secret art.

Hi TrueWitness,
Where are you getting the term strong grace from?thanks staff

T
TrueWitness Oct 31, 2023

To be honest, I just believe that the grace that God showed at the cross is exceedingly strong therefore it is strong grace. If you do not agree, please explain. Do you think it is weak?

Hi everyone,

Speaking of biblical terms, can anyone educate me on the term dominionist or dominionism.
Is it similar to Nicolaitans? Nicolas means the victory of the people.

Also, what is the manifest sons of God?
Are they any more special or more anointed than the rest of the believers? Why are they called manifest?

My apologies if I sidetrack from this thread. I was just curious about the terms since people are talking about biblical terms

Thanks

This teaching is really a great problem.
It is candy laced with poison.
Call it hyper grace or cheap grace or easy believism.
One of its most ardent proponents is Joseph Prince.
Some people in our house group have fallen for this stuff, and it is really hard to undo it.

Over-emphasize grace and de-emphasize righteousness, judgment and God's wrath you present a dangerously caricatured God. Vice versa, if you preach only God's wrath, righteousness and hellfire without introducing grace at some time, you misrepresent God, too.

The only thing you cannot exaggerate is the cross of Christ.
Here all what Christ is and has done culminates into a cosmic point of singularity.

Hi Narrowpath
Call it a biblical term rather than a makey uppey names like below

"Call it hyper grace or cheap grace or easy believism."

The base arguement has to be biblical ,their is no teaching on the above in the bible,Paul or Jesus didnt use those terms nor James ,nor Peter ,nor John .Its made up terms to enhance a made up teaching,

You are right Staff but the issue on the table is how certain preachers present a very unbalanced view of grace.

It reminds me of a time when I was a teenager and my grandpa asked me to wash his car one Saturday. Now, my grandpa was the greatest guy on the planet who was very loving and very gracious to me and rarely asked me to do anything for him but was always doing things for me. Anyways on this one occasion I took advantage of his "grace” and kept putting off washing his car for him because there were other things I wanted to do on my weekend. Then I saw him later in the day and he was washing his car and I was devastated. I’ll never forget how crushed I felt about that.

God is gracious and exceedingly and immeasurably so but he is not to be trifled with.

Hi TMK,
I agree with people about these preachers ,its flashy ,thrashy rubbish they peddle but not only on the subject of grace .They are a type ,they give people who believe in once saved always saved and the pre trib rapture a bad name, like me.Their behaviour is such a bad witness and their attitude towards money etc is awful but as you say God is not one to be trifled with and we should act as if we are not taking God's Grace for granted even though it is granted, urs staff

Perhaps the idea of hyper grace is better articulated in the Bible as falling in the category or is a subcategory of "presumptuous sin.” In my experience, presumptuous or deliberate sinning is a major cause of concern in the local churches I’ve encountered and teaching therein.

N
narrowpath Nov 2, 2023

Here is a biblical reference to what I would call hyper-grace. It is not wrong to give names to movements and trends within theology.

Jude 1:4
For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

There is no Calvinism, Arminianism or dispensationalism in the bible either. These are all made up terms and we can work with them.

A
AbideinHim Nov 2, 2023

Hyper grace is receiving the grace of God for forgiveness without repenting of sins that are committed. The Apostle Paul had to address this error. He was being accused of teaching that the more that we sin, the more grace that we receive from God. There is a well known hyper grace teacher that says that 1 John 1:9 was not written to Christians. That Christians do not have to confess their sins to God.

"Well then, should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of his wonderful grace?”
Of course not! Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it?
(Romans 6:1,2).

Some pervert the grace message and make grace to be a license to sin, yet the grace of God is best demonstrated by this scripture:

"For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say "No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,” (Titus 2:11,12)
