Thank you for sharing this , dear brother Robert. It is extremely edifying and timely, perhaps even more so now than then?!? It is hope giving and convicting at the same time as I ask, am I on fire like that? 🔥 (edit: knowing I’m not at the moment, but that even now the Spirit is stirring me!)
This message was actually preached on my 15th birthday, about a year and a half before our family began attending Bethlehem Baptist, where John Piper preached.
Years after we left Bethlehem, my dad recounted that the first Sunday we attended Bethlehem, I commented, "why did he have to preach his best sermon ever on the day that we visited?!” 😆 Back then, I was not interested to switch churches because I had friends at the church we had been attending, and did not want to leave them.
Yet even at the age of 16 (before being baptized in the spirit!), I could tell that John Piper’s preaching was different. In looking back, I’m glad we switched churches to Bethlehem Baptist, where I would soon meet my future wife.
Oh how much I have learned from the Lord since those early formative years in the faith. Yet in many ways, I often feel like I know nothing, except barely beginning to know Christ even now! Each step in our journey is so important and precious, thanks be to God!
Love you brother Robert! â¤ï¸
