Mat 7:17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
Mat 7:18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
Mat 7:19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
Mat 7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
SIN is never "good fruit". So if someone says they are a "good tree" but admit there is sin in their life, they are deceived. It is impossible for a good tree to bear bad fruit.
Those who bear not good fruit (obedience)? They are what? They say they are a "saved sinner". Really?
Which are you? By our text we see it is impossible to be both. We are either one or the other.
Let's reflect on the fact that just as a healthy tree symbolizes a virtuous heart and its fruitful yield represents a life of holiness, we must acknowledge that the inherent nature of every individual tends toward wickedness. It is only through divine intervention that the wickedness within can be uprooted, a virtuous heart created, nurtured, cultivated, and ultimately made to flourish in a constant state of righteousness and genuine holiness.
