What do you do when the devil attacks you before church or a church meeting or reading the bible

D
deltadom Nov 21, 2023

There are so many times when we are going to work and you are going to church and you have some incident that happens or something happens to try and stop you from going to church

1 Peter 5:8
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

It seems almost like every week whether before a bible study or before a prayer meeting something happens and the bible devil definatly does not want me evangelising

My friend Jim used to say that you would tell the devil where he is going before he would go to a meeting

I have felt so under spiritual attack especially on my back

Ephesians 6:10-12
New King James Version
The Whole Armor of God

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the [a]wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of [b]the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

I am interested as in personal attacks or financial attacks as I have been a christian there is always something new that seems to pop up completly out of the blue

I have memorised the scriptures so I can fight with scripture

I am just interested in what others do

My experience has been that, if you won't fight back, he wins. He knows the timid from those willing to engage. Stand up to him with the word of God and go at it! Make it difficult for him. Spoil his house. God has abundantly equipped us for battle. Non-belief and timidity must go.

Sure, it’s easy to be intimidated. Well, what are we gonna do about it? Are we going to be a bunch of namby-pamby "sort-of" believers, or are we going to be the Church of Jesus Christ- this same Jesus who "disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities...[and] shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross"? (Col. 2:15)

We are agents of a foreign government and we are tasked with taking back ground. I’ve been watching "Band of Brothers” and I am amazed at the courage of men in extraordinary circumstances. We should strive to show the same courage but it is much easier said than done.

Weeping endures for a night but JOY comes in the morning!!

Get up and do it again and again and again! That is the way we take ground!!

I sort of take the opposite stance, not surprisingly to most of you probably.

I see this world as Jesus world, our Fathers creation and it is His, and everything in it. He has already disarmed all principality and power via the cross, and we are already victorious in Him, and He in us. So as Paul says, we stand defensively in Jesus world, holding our ground victoriously until He returns to finally set it all aright. So I don't take anything, it is already my inheritance with Jesus, the satanic powers are trying to take ground, but we defend what we have inherited, seated with Jesus in heavenly places, walking in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, standing against the powers of the air.

If we take every circumstance as from the Fathers hand, and view them all as ways in which Jesus is loving this world and the Father through us, trials become joy, temptation opportunity for faith, and tribulation simply par for the course.

We are victors, and we serve a victorious king who will return for His world and make all things new. Until then, it is Christ in me, the hope of glory.

I was more after personal examples as almost every week before I hand out tracts and evangelise down town something comes up and I find it can be anything

It is amazing what excuses I have heard for not going to church or a prayer meeting

I have heard churches break up due to relationship problems or other small things

Revelation 12:10
New King James Version

10 Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, "Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down.

I am amazed as I know many christians who have given excuses to not go to church or not to listen to a sermon

I will get a phone call like I am not going to church today because of .......

or I am not coming to the prayer meeting because of ......

I amazed as I experience this on a regular basis as with things like going to church or going evangelising or going to meetings and the thing it is not predicatable

The thing is it makes a difference as you can end up with 100 people on a prayer meeting and end up with 5

my friend jim experienced it regularly when going to a church on a sunday morning and I experience the same thing

The thing is it shows peoples priorities, do they value god rather than men

T
TMK Nov 22, 2023

Dom if you judge others or even have expectations you are only setting yourself for a bitter spirit. Jesus did not entrust himself to men because he knew what they were like.

D
deltadom Nov 22, 2023

What I am trying to describe is what us as christians go through , I wouldnt say this is to do with a bitter spirit

I am more trying to describe a experience

I sure go through it and it went on when we were kids. My dad was always at his grumpiest on Sunday mornings before church and it seemed that everyone was in a bad mood on the drive to church- except mom who seemed to rise above it.

Is there anyone in a church in your area with the gift of spiritual discernment Dominic ? As you could maybe get some guidance from them.

As we don't know you well like the Lord..

You could get in touch with a free ministry I know. Called Kingdom Living Ministries..

https://kingdomlivingministries.co.uk/prophetic-ministry-appointments/

They give people words of knowledge. You get in touch with them, they pray to the Lord for a few weeks and speak to you about things in your life that no one else knows.

But tell them that you specifically want to find out the causes of the attacks.

They spoke to me for half an hour and told me things. I thought they weren't right about some things, but after a few weeks the Lord spoke to me confirming what they had said. So they were correct on every different thing they brought up... which was confirming the way ahead..

I would say it's best to let them know before hand what has been happening to you..

It's a donation based thing. If you can't afford it , I think it's okay with them.

Dom,

I would strongly discourage you from taking DavidKeels advice, but you probably already know how dubious those "ministries" are.

If God will tell them, why wouldn't He just tell you? These ministries don't make any sense to me, I don't need a mediator, Jesus is that already.

People who seek these ministries out are people who need to seek God, because they obviously have not found Him. Jesus says to all people, seek me and you will find me, knock and I will enter in and sup with you. He says eternal life is that we all may know the Father, and Jesus Christ whom He has sent.

Hi Eschable, this has been going on with Dom for many years.. I see you haven't been on the forum for long, but these conversations with Dom have been on here for 8 years or more maybe ? And none of us have been able to get him to open up when questioning him about specifics in his personal walk with God. And some of us have been concerned about asking him of any sin. for fear of coming over as judgemental.

I agree with you God should be telling him things in his life, but God will not say to him these attacks are happening because of ......... (fill in the blanks).

God will reveal sins to us in our personal life, we then have to obey, if we don't do that and take the hard road that leads to life then we are in danger of God giving us over to other powers... whatever they may be.

God doesn't want any of us to sit still and passively wait for another filling of the spirit to come to transform us more, that's nowhere in the bible, but millions of believers are expecting it.

I brought the topic up of contacting someone in his area from a church, or that ministry I mentioned. As none of us have ever been able to get to the root of what is happening.

Dom is a dear brother. I think the "concerns" everyone has are rooted in the language barrier, not any leading of God.

Leave him be and find fellowship with him, he sees what Lot saw, the unrighteousness of the world around him. Maybe remove the log, you know? or talk of things concerning Jesus, not some christianized version of a psychologists office or more of this fortune teller nonsense.

You do realize spiritual warfare is par for the course, and it's theology like yours that binds men up into thinking they are causing it somehow. The devil prowls... and he isn't looking for a sinner, he is looking to trip up the saints of God. But you would have precious saints of God think they face spiritual attack because they are doing something wrong, or in sin... And than go to spiritualized therapy... and you can't see how that is just the world system with a religious banner?

This modern "prophetic" movement is a cancer I've realized... It just pops up everywhere and has a carnal answer for everything doesn't it?

Could it be that this type of theology is a tool of Satan to make people live in self condemnation and always looking at themselves to see what they could possibly be doing to cause their warfare, rather than looking to Jesus and living in the salvation and promises of God?

Dom,
Sorry to talk like you're not reading this brother. I know what you mean about spiritual attack though, and I'm sorry to again get off topic.

davidkeel Nov 23, 2023

Hi Eschable
There's is a spiritual gift of discerning of spirits. I wasn't sure if you remembered it in Corinthians ?

That's what I was referring to. That ministry I posted about involves themselves in it

But apart from the other stuff I mentioned about obeying God . There is a narrow way where we must strive to discipline ourselves. to be in step with the Spirit.

After Jesus healed a man his words to him where .. "Stop sinning or worse things will come upon you". Would you call Jesus what you called me for saying such words ? ... I mean they're a bit harsh aren't they ?

We are called to more purity as a believer. not more faith... and not to be passive over sin in our lives.. that's the way the Spirit works in convicting us.

E
ESchaible Nov 23, 2023

DavidKeel,

I didn't really call you anything, more just made some observations about theology. That ministry you pointed us to a "prophetic" ministry that is another one of those that seeks to be a mediator between God and men, "comforting" them with "words of knowledge" to "confirm" to them that God knows them and has a path for them.

And this is the same God of Abraham, who had absolutely no idea where he was going, because God didn't tell him. He went out, trusting God, not anything else except He was being led, moment by moment, and day by day.

Jesus is this to His people, a mediator. It's becoming more and more apparent to me that most of the professing church actually does not even know God, and this is evidenced, glaringly, by people flocking to these types of ministries.

Jesus words to the man He healed are words of life. Sin will bring much worse, eternal consequences to the man if he continues in it. But His words are to be taken in the broader context of His teaching. That man was not sick due to sin, just as the blind man was not born blind because anyone sinned, it was to manifest the glory of God. Lazarus is the most amazing lesson of this deep truth of God and His purposes.

This all consuming motive of Jesus, the glory of His Father, is almost non existent among professing believers today. It's all man centered. What am I doing? What did I do? What can I do? What can that guy do? Everything, somewhere, leads back to man, and ignores God and His glory. That is the foundational deception in this modern prophetic/word of knowledge charismatic movement (I don't oppose everything labeled charismatic, just that which opposes God).

Anyway, this is a conversation that just keeps coming back ad nauseum. Would that this movement would finally die to it's good intentions and soulish mania, and be resurrected into something that will glorify God.

A true prophet to me is someone active in teaching repentance after having lived it fully.

"a true prophet TO ME is..."

That sums it all up.
