Hi - reading the post about the cross, currently reading a book from David Wilkerson "The New Covenant Unveiled"
The is a chapter in it Entering the New Covenant by the way of the Cross.
Quote How many definitions of the Cross have you heard in your lifetime. I freely admit that for many years I never had the cross shown to me in a way that satisfied my deepest longings about it.
David then explains how he sought God to show him what it truly meant. Then asks the question.
Quote: Answer Honestly - do you understand the meaning of the cross, your cross, your dying, in a personnel way? Can you explain to me what the cross means to you, and what happened as a result of doing it?
Then he goes on to say I am not going to share with you doctrinally about the cross and goes onto share his experience of the cross.
Quote: It was while I was down in the depth of Nothingness that God unveiled to me the mean of the cross.
All he knows that he came to a end of himself, down, down into a place of helplessness.
Quote: On that day, I could not even pray. All I could do was lie on the floor, empty in spirit, with no tears left. Engulfed in a sense if total failure, I could only say, "Lord I cannot go on like this anymore. I am worn out. I am have tried and failed. After all my searching through books, all my study, all my efforts to be a conqueror, I still battle my flesh. My temptations have not let up. I have tried to be a living sacrifice. I have struggled to live by faith. I have diligently tried to live by the Spirit, to allow him to lead me and empower me. But still don't get it. I still don't understand why it's not getting through to me.
Down into nothingness I went - where the cry is, Lord I can't struggle anymore. I have nothing in me to offer you - no merit, no plea. I have no more power, no more fight. I am weak, helpless. I am clueless on what I need to do.
Down to nothingness where no one on earth can help. No counselor, no loved one, no friend, no minister. It is a place where you know that unless the Lord comes to change you - to open your eyes and show you the way - it can't be done.
It is a place where you know beyond any shadow of doubt you can do nothing on your own.
Down to nothingness - where I no longer have a will of my own. On my own I am helpless, will-less. I have given up my will because it has totally failed to accomplish any spirituality in me.
At this place I found myself on solid ground.
Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise.
It was there in my nothingness that I told Jesus "You were God in the Flesh, yet you needed the Father direction. You could do nothing on your own. How could you expect anything less of me.
There is not much more that I can add - it reminds on my holiness meetings that I attended - one of the first things they said - you must come to the place where you are nothing.
"I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing" John 5:19.
