Christmas do we forget jesus

D
deltadom Dec 8, 2023

I know people are going to say jesus is not born at this time of year and I should celebrate hannukah and that Christmas is pagan
Yet this is the only time of year that we can dwell on the aspect of the hypostatic union

We have the fact of god's attributes such as how can a god who is immortal take on mortality

aseity, eternality, omnipresence, omnipotence, omniscience, and holiness these are a few attributes of God and then the attributes of men and then theology wrestled how god could take on a human nature through various decades in the church

If you want a good take on it listen to a w tozers or William lane Craig or Dr Phil Fernandez

Then we have the theology of the songs that we sing at Christmas

‘O Come, O Come Emmanuel’ is a dark and delicate carol with a super-confusing back-story. But the good news is there’s a Kelly Clarkson version too!

‘O Come, O Come Emmanuel’ was originally written in Latin with a title of ‘Veni, Veni, Emmanuel’ (documents featuring the title and words date back to 1710).

The English translation of the Christmas carol came about in 1851 when priest and scholar John Mason Neale’s version featured in the pages of The Hymnal Noted ”“ a key text in the history of hymns collected by hymnal documenter Thomas Helmore.

Neale also originated the words to ‘Good King Wenceslas’, making him officially one of history’s most festive clergymen.

O Come, O Come, Emmanuel ”“ full lyrics
O come, O come, Emmanuel,
And ransom captive Israel,
That mourns in lonely exile here,
Until the Son of God appear.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Thou Rod of Jesse, free
Thine own from Satan's tyranny;
From depths of hell Thy people save,
And give them victory o'er the grave.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Thou Dayspring, from on high,
And cheer us by Thy drawing nigh;
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night,
And death's dark shadows put to flight.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Thou Key of David, come
And open wide our heav'nly home;
Make safe the way that leads on high,
And close the path to misery.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Adonai, Lord of might,
Who to Thy tribes, on Sinai's height,
In ancient times didst give the law
In cloud and majesty and awe.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

There are so other amazing Christmas hymns

We lived in a world that is flooded with father Christmas and mistletoe and other things

Where is the Messiah at Christmas

As I used to listen to Christ rosebrough who would go through massive amounts of sermons at big churches

Jesus would not be mentioned

How many churches is the bible untouched or not examined even at Christmas

Christmas is a time of year when unbelievers walk into church

With Christmas there is enough theology or sermons that you could preach for three years just on this subject as how did jesus become a man

What about the magi and where did they come from archaeology wise and what about the archaeology at Bethlehem

As most people don't know that the wise men came two years later and shouldnt be in the Nativity scene

And why is Hamas ruining Christmas in Bethlehem
