The power of the gospel or the ministration of death written and engraving on stones

Part of the debate from 6 months ago with a seventh-day charismatic

Under the new covenant we received the Holy spirit which exercises our spiritual senses and the Christ in us who is being formed who lives his life through us who gives us the power to to discern evil desire and impure desire which comes from experiencing the holiness of God through the spirit.

And what it comes down to it this is much more sensitive than following a list of sins that doesn't deal with the flesh and the desires of the flesh . The Law of Moses shows the fruit of sin but is void of power to set one free to overcome the Sin.

Where as under the new covenant Grace is revealedand that deals with the root of sin and extracts it from our soul and the son sets us free from the slavery of the old nature.

To allow Christ to live his life through us: Christ in us the hope of glory hymn we preach warning every man and teaching every man that we may present every man perfect in Jesus Christ the apostle Paul said.

The crucifixion of Christ becomes our own crucifixion through faith and the old sinful nature loses it's power that's how one become sanctified .

The whole Christian walk is empowered by grace through faith. We are saved by Grace through faith we are being saved by grace through faith we are sanctified and made holy by grace through faith and it's not of ourselves it's the gift, the holy gift from God (Christ in us). It's not done through works we don't begin in the spirit and then perfect our life through the flesh or through the law that was given that contained fleshy commandments ( Hebrews.)

Jesus literally spoke to the children of Israel as a prophet preaching to them the law of Moses. The apostle Paul said :what the law says it says to those who are under the law that every mouth may be stopped and the whole world become guilty before God.

The law was design to bring conviction and repentance to Israel. The apostle Paul said those who are under the law will be judged by the law and that's exactly what Jesus did. And those who are without law will perish without the law. And that's speaking about the rest of the world or gentile population who are not part of the Commonwealth of God.

Jesus was under the mantle of the prophet of God to Israel he also ministered under the mantle of the great apostle and started to preach new truths to the people to prepare them for the apostolic doctrine that he would give to the apostles after he had ascended.

The apostle John said the law was given by Moses but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. Jesus said I have much more that I want to tell you but you can't handle it now but when the spirit comes he will remind you and teach you all the things that I told you, and he will guide you into all truth that you have not yet heard because you can't handle it or Bare it

No what I'm saying is the Jesus was sent to the house of Israel, the Bible says he was born of a woman born under the law to redeem those who were under the law. So he preached and use the law lawfully in the same contexts described in letter to Timothy written by Paul, He brought them under conviction. Prepared them for the outpouring of Grace That would come on the day of Pentecost.

We see Jesus telling the Jews to obey the law of Moses given by the Pharisees and the teachers of the law. This has nothing to do with gentiles because he was sent to the Jews to redeem them from the law that's what the Bible says which means set them free.

1 Then Jesus spoke to the multitudes and to His disciples, 2 saying: "The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. 3Therefore whatever they tell you [a]to observe, that observe and do, but do not do according to their works; for they say, and do not do.

We can't set aside the awesome Grace and kindness and mercy of God to go back to getting brownie points from following old Jewish law that was never given to the gentiles anyway.

A person has liberty to not eat pork and not eat prawns if they want to do that but there's no mandate or no right in the new covenant to teach others to do the same thing, Paul said you keep that between yourself and God when it come to things that are similar to that, but the danger is that we take our eyes of Christ and we take our hearts off the mercy and grace of God where by he transformed us and gave us the very life with which we now live and we breathe, to return again to the( Beggarly elements ) and our minds are drawn to the Earth and our minds are drawn to our own behavior. The Bible clearly says we are ministers of the spirit we are not ministers of the ministration of death written and engraving on stones.

We are a gentile people selected purely by The Mercy and Grace Of God. And we as Paul said are under law towards Christ not under the law of Moses and our conscience bares witness either accusing or excusing us and we fulfil the righteous requirements of the law which was written on our hearts by the Holy spirit who existed before the world was createdand before any law was written.

The holiness of God is implanted into us and we behold his glory and our conscience becomes aware of holiness and then by default our sensors are exercised to discern good & evil as it says in Hebrews and so we take every thought captive we start to understand the difference between the flesh and the spirit and we live a life of the spirit not according to a written code, the spirit gives life but but the letter kills and it always has.

Jesus actually did do what was not lawful on the Sabbath and he says that he did just as David did and just as the priest did because he said that he was the lord of Sabbath and was greater .

And the Sabbath was made for him. So the priests had special treatment when it came to the law and in the same way Jesus could pick grains and do things on the Sabbath that the Jews would have been put to death for because he was the Lord of the Sabbath and he was the actual giver of the commands and he was coming into institute and show a new law of Grace which would be ratified by his blood and the pouring out of the spirit.

And because we have died and our life is hidden in Christ it is no longer we who live but Christ who lives in us and we are Priestley Kings according to the same order that Jesus is ,we also have the same privileges in and same inheritance that Christ had.

Paul said the father has offered up his only begotten son to us how much more will he not freely give us all things, the inheritance is beyond imagination.

Mathew 12; 3But He said to them, "Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him: 4how he entered the house of God and ate the showbread which was not lawful for him to eat, nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests? 5Or have you not read in the law that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple [a]profane the Sabbath, and are blameless? 6Yet I say to you that in this place there is One greater than the temple. 7But if you had known what this means, ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the guiltless. 8For the Son of Man is Lord [b]even of the Sabbath.”

There is no extra blessing from keeping a watered down version of the law of Moses to try to score points with God and extra blessings. We have been blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ it's a dishonor to what Christ did on the cross and what he accomplished in his perfect work, every blessing and benefit is contained in Christ and we have been brought in to the new lineage of the second Adam and we receive the inheritance in the blessing because of Christ and the spirit of Grace who sanctifies us separates us makes us holy.

The Bible says he is our justification and he is our sanctification and he is our righteousness and it is no longer we who live but Christ who lives in US.

You can't add to what Christ did or go back to some law that was brought in because of transgressions and it was instituted because of the evil and wickedness that our Jewish brother's committed . Through the law was the knowledge of sin it was brought into show sin not to give blessing or life

We see in Colossians that we are not to let anyone judge us or to tell us how to live our life when it comes to the Old testament feasts and the new moons the festivals and the sabbaths because Paul clearly says that is a shadow just like the sacrificial system was a shadow of the literal sacrifice of the Lamb of God.

Shadows have no substance they have no power they are a sign that points us to the real thing, a shadow is nothing but a a sign post to the real thing and we have entered into that real thing, that real thing is Christ himself we are in him and he is in US.

We Fulfil the spiritual feasts the feast of Passover we enter in that through the new birth in the blood of Christ the wrath of God passes over us, the feast of Pentecost we enter into that through the baptism of the Holy spirit in the same way the Sabbath rest we enter into our rest with God and we experience the lord of Sabbath we have some more feasts coming down in the near future which is the feast of trumpets and the day of atonement and the feast of tabernacles we are yet to enter into the last two feast but we are in the feast of trumpets now and this is the message that's been trumpeted out but there is a coming day of atonement when the church will enter in to the glory of Glory the Holy of Holies as the high priest did in the shadow. Let us Not confuse the shadows and the pictures of the Old testament with the real spiritual fulfilment.

gal 2; 11When Cephas came to Antioch, however, I opposed him to his face, because he stood to be condemned. 12For before certain men came from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles. But when they arrived, he began to draw back and separate himself, for fear of those in the circumcision group.

We clearly see the apostle Paul rebuking Peter when he went to Antioch because Peter was actually not living under the Jewish law but was eating with the gentiles and ministering to them and then did a backflip when men came from the group which he calls the circumcision started to teach the gentiles to live as Jews and Paul was completely against that teaching and all through the letters of the Galatians and Romans we see Paul taught against gentiles having to become Jews or follow Jewish precepts and laws to please God

Going into Old testament law of commandments and bringing them in and applying them to the gentile church we see was actually for forbidden in the book of acts by the apostolic council so it doesn't bolster any type of new covenant law in anyway shape of form.

Most of those previous quotes are from the Old testament law and some were from when Jesus was preaching the old covenant law to bring the Jews under conviction and as Paul said in Timothy the law was good if you used it lawfully knowing it was not created for a righteous person, those that have been made righteous by the blood of Christ and have received the imputed righteousness through Faith these ones are not under the law. Paul said the law of Moses was made for anything country to the gospel and sound doctrine.

Romans 14; 14I know and am convinced by the Lord Jesus that there is nothing unclean of itself; but to him who considers anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean. 15 Yet if your brother is grieved because of your food, you are no longer walking in love. Do not destroy with your food the one for whom Christ died. 16 Therefore do not let your good be spoken of as evil; 17for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. 18 For he who serves Christ in these things is acceptable to God and approved by men.

The grace of God and the law of the spirit which is the law of the new covenant is never an excuse to sin, but becomes the catalyst and the means of power so that we may not sin, we now have no excuses for committing sin and living as a slave to sin as people did under the old covenant.

Anyone that uses the word Grace to excuse their sin are either very immature Christians or may not be born again Christians and probably have never experienced Grace in their life. . Grace is the power to walk as Christ walked and the patience of God to mold us and form us and refine us through two types of 🔥🔥 fire

Romans 7
1 Or do you not know, brothers--for I am speaking to those who know the law--that the law is binding on a person only as long as he lives?
2 For a married woman is bound by law to her husband while he lives, but if her husband dies she is released from the law of marriage.
3 Accordingly, she will be called an adulteress if she lives with another man while her husband is alive. But if her husband dies, she is free from that law, and if she marries another man she is not an adulteress.
4 Likewise, my brothers, you also have died to the law through the body of Christ, so that you may belong to another, to him who has been raised from the dead, in order that we may bear fruit for God.
5 For while we were living in the flesh, our sinful passions, aroused by the law, were at work in our members to bear fruit for death.
6 But now we are released from the law, having died to that which held us captive, so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit and not in the old way of the written code.
7 What then shall we say? That the law is sin? By no means! Yet if it had not been for the law, I would not have known sin. For I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, "You shall not covet."
8 But sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of covetousness. For apart from the law, sin lies dead.
9 I was once alive apart from the law, but when the commandment came, sin came alive and I died.
10 The very commandment that promised life proved to be death to me.
11 For sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, deceived me and through it killed me.
12 So the law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good.
13 Did that which is good, then, bring death to me? By no means! It was sin, producing death in me through what is good, in order that sin might be shown to be sin, and through the commandment might become sinful beyond measure.
14 For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am of the flesh, sold under sin.
15 For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate.
16 Now if I do what I do not want, I agree with the law, that it is good.
17 So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me.
18 For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out.
19 For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing.
20 Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me.
21 So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand.
22 For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being,
23 but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members.
24 Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?
25 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin.

In Romans 7 v 1 Paul the apostle is speaking to the Jewish Brothers who are at Rome who know the law, and is using the binding of that old covenant law upon a married woman, comparing to Christ who is our husband and who died, and through the death of the son, sets the Jewish people free who were under bondage, free in Christ.

Those under the law we're slaves and and never bore the fruit of the spirit spoken of in verse 4....

In verse 5 the apostle Paul points out that being under the law was to live in the flesh, and the law actually excited rebellion in our his body rather then obedience in his spirit

Now in v6 the apostle speaks about conversion and having been released from the law and that he may serve God in the newness of the spirit and not in the ministration of death the written code on stone. So a person might come to the conclusion that the law is evil Paul says no, he's saying before conversion it was the law the schoolmaster that pointed me to my need for a blood sacrifice and pointed me to the sin that I couldn't see because I was consumed by and lived in The flesh.

Inverse 9 when Paul was young as a child he was alive but as he grew in became of age he was brought under that law and it condemned him and brought no life or spirit whatsoever. In verse 14 Paul is speaking about his pre-conversion conditions as a Pharisee under the law understanding that the law came from God but he was completely controlled by the flesh and under the power and slavery of sin an in verse 15 he explains what that was like to be a slave to sin under the bondage of the law v16 is the experience he had not being able to do the good that he knew he should do.
You sent
So inverse 17 Paul said the law showed me the power of sin that dwells in me as an unconverted person it controlled me, inverse 22 Paul could say the law was holy in that it came from God and it was a good thing but had no power to give him the grace to be holy, and his body and his members were in control of his life making him captive to the law of sin and death thank God for Jesus Christ and the Holy spirit. Verse 24 speaks of the wretched condition and the the conscience of a man who had no spiritual Grace and life but just the knowledge of his own sinful condition the despair that the law brought and that only the innocence bloodshed of a sacrifice was sufficient to cover over his sin

And the next chapter Romans 8 what are the most glorious chapters in the Bible that speaks of the freedom that Christ bought on the cross through the eternal spirit

The problem with teaching young immature Christians about the law of Moses and then telling them that they will receive blessing if they follow fleshly ordinances and dietary requirements is in their mind they will not be blessed and have God's favors if they don't follow all these other requirements the 613 laws that are contained in Moses's law . And what that really means is if you're not receiving this special blessing that means by default that you're still under some sort of a curse and God's not happy with you because you're being disobedient to the law which what this means that a person gets justified through Christ and then has to maintain their salvation and there approval of God by following Moses and this is similar to what they were teaching in the first century church. Which the Judaizes taught. Many of these early Jewish converts were true Christians that had not had the revelation that Paul and had about Grace for the gentiles.

Focusing on what Paul called the ministration of death written engraving on stones brings our consciousness and our mind on earthly things, and can actually take away our focus on heavenly things and spiritual things and becomes a works based sanctification attempt.

Sanctification is a gift from God through Grace by faith the same way we become justified, we grow in sanctification and we receive impartation of the divine nature, for we have been made partakers of that divine nature.

Its Christ in us who is our sanctification our righteousness our justification he is all an in all, our devotion should be prayer and humbling ourselves under the mighty hand of God that he may exalt us in the spirit. Coming to God with a broken heart in a contract spirit until he lifts us up and our focus should always be upon the cross and Jesus Christ and his resurrection power that's where our life and our holiness comes from.

We can't make ourselves Holy by obeying commandments. But a knew creation, and being filled with the fullness of God and his spirit is what causes us to walk holy.

I'll just finished with this quote from Paul the kingdom of God is not meat and drink but righteousness peace and joy in the Holy spirit.

1 Timothy 1 :8But we know that the law is good if one uses it lawfully, 9knowing this: that the law is not made for a righteous person, but for the lawless and insubordinate, for the ungodly and for sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, 10for fornicators, for sodomites, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjurers, and if there is any other thing that is [c]contrary to sound doctrine, 11according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God which was committed to my trust.

The law Can still be used lawfully to bring sinners to the cross and directly is especially good to bring Jews to the faith seeing that it was a schoolmaster as Paul said to lead us to Christ and since Christ comes we are no longer under the schoolmaster and Paul was speaking as a Pharisee.

Some of the great evangelists through the years like Charles Finney used the law to bring sinners to the cross, and it worked fine for that reason but once we've come to the cross and we've been given new life we we as in Hebrews mature to develop our senses to discern good & evil and our conscience is become filled with the spirit and we're able to sense when we walk in the flesh and when we walk in the spirit able to take every thought captive and this is how a person learns to repent it is through the law of the spirit. These two laws are two different things the law did not contain the spirit . Peter said it was a bondage that not even their fathers could bear.

Jesus learnt obedience through the things that he suffered devotional life and partaking in the sufferings of Christ is what makes a person holy and detaches them from worldly pleasures enables a person to come to the cross of Christ and experience The co crucifixion.

Paul said if one died for all than all died it is no longer I live but christ who lives in me it's the gospel of the Cross and the power contained in the gospel that kills the old sinful nature The Old man and allows us to walk in the fullness of God the law doesn't serve any part in killing the old man, the cross does that.

What we have to remember is Jesus was in the process bringing in another covenant, while living under the law the Bible says he was born of a woman born under the law to redeem :set free those people who were under the law. Much of Jesus' preaching was preaching old covenant law to unconverted people to prepare them for the day of Pentecost and for the ministration of the spirit.

So he preached the law to bring as many people under the conviction and knowledge of their own personal sin. But at the same time brought in new covenant ideas and teachings like loving your enemy and praying for those that persecute you these were new covenant ideas.

And after his ascension and the pouring out of the Holy spirit the apostles, especially apostle Paul received what he called the gospel to the gentiles which was a gospel of liberty and grace which never required a gentile to become a Jew or to follow fleshly ordinances. Paul said to those who were without law I became as without law that I might win those who are without law , he was referring to the gentles.

He also said to the Jews I became as a Jew that I might win some. He became all things to all men he said, but he understood perfectly the liberty that he had in Jesus Christ. In his letter he details of the time that he clearly rebuked Peter for his hypocrisy.

No Return to the Law

Gal 2 :11Now when [d]Peter had come to Antioch, I [e]withstood him to his face, because he was to be blamed; 12for before certain men came from James, he would eat with the Gentiles; but when they came, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing [f]those who were of the circumcision. 13And the rest of the Jews also played the hypocrite with him, so that even Barnabas was carried away with their hypocrisy.

14But when I saw that they were not straightforward about the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter before them all, "If you, being a Jew, live in the manner of Gentiles and not as the Jews, [g]why do you compel Gentiles to live as [h]Jews?

2 cor 3 :6who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the [a]Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

Glory of the New Covenant

7But if the ministry of death, written and engraved on stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of the glory of his countenance, which glory was passing away, 8how will the ministry of the Spirit not be more glorious? 9For if the ministry of condemnation had glory, the ministry of righteousness exceeds much more in glory. 10For even what was made glorious had no glory in this respect, because of the glory that excels. 11For if what is passing away was glorious, what remains is much more glorious.

I think when we look at the revelation that Paul had about what the law was designed for we see that he said it was designed as a schoolmaster and it was brought in because of transgression and sin upon a very rebellious people. Apostle Paul said that's the law increased transgression and brought about the knowledge of sin.

And in the letter to the Corinthians he uses the term ministration of death because it contained the death penalty it brought no life but brought a consciousness of Sin to a rebellious people. And at the time was directly given to the children of Israel, part of that law was designed to create a Jewish identity

And when we look at the letter to Timothy Paul clearly said that law was good if one used it lawfully knowing that it wasn't created for a righteous person, but was created for a people that we're contrary to sound doctrine and contrary to the glorious life-giving gospel.

Sanctification doesn't come through freshly obedience but comes through the same channel of faith.

We are sanctified through faith and transformed when we behold his Glory from glory to Glory. ✝️✝️✝️✝️

Thanks for the helpful posting Gary,

your post dovetails with a question I was asking myself in regards to the law and its effect when laid upon the fallen person or society. In your understanding of Scripture, is it accurate to say that the law actually has the effect on the flesh of causing it to get stirred up to more sin rather than less, as Paul seems to say in Romans 7 ? As Paul said, I would not have "known" covetousness apart from the law saying "do not covet". Paul admits to the stirring of the conscience by God's holy law but also points to a simultaneous more powerful stirring of the flesh desires that are more powerful and controlling on actual behavior. That seems to suggest that commanding a sinful nature not to sin actually has the opposite result of increasing the power of sin in that fallen nature and increasing the result that the sin commanded against will actually occur over time. Just for the record, I 'm not advocating the law is bad or shouldn't be mandated in society. Just discovering what the long term effects are versus what we might hope or assume would be the case.

If that is true, doesn't bringing the command of obedience to the law into a fallen person's life have the exact opposite desired effect over time even if the law is good and holy; that is, commanding someone to love is good but sin takes advantage of the law of love to God and others and directs the enslaved heart to pursue self love and thereby "hate" God and others?

If that is true, isn't the ministry of bringing society into conformance to God's law always going to end up either in more sin in fact or, as the only alternative, conviction of the Spirit to repent and die to the law and dead works and live to Christ by the Spirit. If that is true, then isn't all obedience based teaching to unbelievers for the purpose of improving themselves or the culture really missing the truth of the power of sin having a greater day of success in society eventually, especially when the law is taught as a means of morality, or conformance to God's ways or leading to Christ unless the real purpose of teaching the law is to reveal the exceeding sinfulness of sin and to lead someone to repentance towards God and faith in Jesus ? The law may strive with a fallen conscience through the Spirit for a time, but eventually, the flesh wins in the fallen nature.

Doesn't the course of the history of Israel and the constant presence of God's law in Israel show that pursuing righteousness through the doing of the law in human strength rather than through faith in God result in Israel always ending up more sinful than Sodom and Gomorrah, Egypt, and Babylon ?

I'm not trying to trap. The notion or strategy of obedience based "discipleship" of or teaching to unbelievers to lead them to Christ is out there. It subtly operates as an OT Israel kind of discipleship. This is a very popular form of evangelism that actually uses "OBD" to make disciples of unbelievers and they claim great success with it in hard to reach cultures. This topic has great relevance to what's going on in the world of evangelism. Yet, Romans 7 would lead one to believe that making unbelievers progressively more obedient to God in the hopes of ultimately leading to them to be a better person or a saved person or leading a better local culture or world is counter Scriptural and actually counter productive.

Thus, one may moralize unbelievers in one sense but what really happens is we turn "greed" into "God blessed" financial prosperity. Or we turn foolish damning hoarding of wealth (covetousness) into wise stewardship for your own family or personal future. Yes, society is working hard and the money is not used on lavish self indulgence per se, but, in fact, wealth is hoarded contrary to being rich towards God. (Luke 12) This is what happened in much of unbelieving Europe through the Protestant Reformation and in the US as well. It's just lipstick on a pig so to speak because ultimately the veneer of morality cracks and fades and the truth of the fleshly soul is exposed and the exceeding sinfulness of sin is revealed by the law.

"Likewise, my brothers, you also have died to the law through the body of Christ, so that you may belong to another, to him who has been raised from the dead, in order that we may bear fruit for God. Thought I would add that as well. Key phrase I wanted to point out, that our sinful passions are "aroused by the law". The Holy Spirit led me to believe "flesh" is generally to be understood as legalistic law keeping, rather than sinful passions (I say generally, as in Galatians, Romans, but not always. Sarx is a contextually defined word, as is most of the Greek language).

The right division of this truth changed my life in Christ. I'm curious how this discussion plays out.

Hi Robert. I've just received a electric power back on a hurricane or cyclone has just crossed the coast north of where we live.

So I will make it quick reply brother and come back on later.

As you say it does seem slightly contradictive the effect that the law has on unbelievers.

But I would say and I'm not saying im 100% correct in anything but my understanding is the holy law of God or the gospel when it's preached upon an unbeliever if God doesn't intervene with his prevenial grace so to speak that it will be rejected, be a stumbling block or it will be foolishness,
And the law itself being that it is holy will always rub up the flesh and excite rebellion but at the same time in some people it will still produce conviction though it may excite rebellion at the same time which produces a mindset of exceedingly sinfulness and therefore can have the effect of bringing one into a helpless guilty position.

But I think the gospel can also have that effect because we preach repentance from sin at the same time.

So on one hand the law can produce restraint and boundaries on the other hand it produces or excites passions that are contrary to righteousness it doesn't necessarily mean that you will break the law in the same way.

For instance there's a law that says you shall not steal which is a common law we all use in most cultures that are christianised today that law May restrain one from stealing but it actually May excite one to covert and to desire.

Or the law to not murder May excite the flesh to hate.

But I don't think this has anything to do with God's holy law being a problem it's more to do with the sinful carnal nature naturally being in rebellion.

In other words we need laws that comes from God's righteous standards to be a part of society and most societies that are not christianized still have standards that would be considered God's holy standards like murder rape incest stealing ectra.

And I wouldn't be promoting trying to convert nations by bringing under some godly law to force them to follow if you're implying that that's what the seven mountain mandate or what the charismatics believe. It's more of a revival focused transformation that takes place from the bottom up and as that spreads, naturally laws become more holy and change because people desire that...

But the idea of having no laws and trying to run a society under anarchism the extreme opposite to what you're saying obviously doesn't work.

Society needs some type of schoolmaster and that's really what laws in the Judeo-Christian nations do it keeps people in check but also excites the flesh as it is does too many teenagers and young rebellious people who rebell against the laws of the land which many of them are probably straight from the Bible anyways, but as they grow they realise the rebellion in many cases and start to see that what they did when they were young youthful rebels filled with youful lusts the same lusts that Timothy was told to flee, that they were quite sinful and rebellious and stupid when they were young.

But having said that that wasn't really what my debate was about it was about weather Christians should keep the law like the Sabbath, dietary requirements and numerous other laws that are mentioned in the old covenant and what will that do if we put ourselves back under that law.

So it's more in a religious context brother if you know what I mean.

Evan I also did a video on that content that I posted and the main subject really is legalism and how the law will produce legalism in those who"s focus and faith drifts from the heavenly Cross towards the ministration of death written and engraved on stones which is earthly Focus and affection, and a misplaced faith.

which is really still a sinful passion, because anytime we seek to be justified by anything other than the cross we move into works-based salvation which in its rawest form is idolatry and trusting in oneself over God and I believe this is a human passion that's inherent in the nature of Adam and the fallen sons and daughters of men.

It is also something if we may use the reality or concept of Satan tempting us to trust in our own works and to produce our own self-righteousness it is a temptation
that every Christian has to deal with and overcome and understand so that we can move into the true freedom of the gospel and deeper places of sanctification.

Having said that brother I also believe in entire sanctification as a secondary or possibly a third blessing but at the same time, I believe there's a gradual increase at the same time after that takes place.

So for me it's completely the work of Grace and the power of the holy spirit manifesting Christ in us, and as that happens with Supernatural impartations like the second blessing and growth in Grace, that is played out within us through overcoming the sin of legalism the sin of judgment and the sin of unbelief, which is really connected to the sin of Pride that when we truly overcome Pride through moving through trial and sufferings which help to refine our holiness then we move into that overcoming lifestyle, and at the same time this is all done through faith as the main channel through which sanctification becomes a reality and maturity or the perfect man becomes who we are.

I've shared this on this forum before, but I thought it might be relevant to bring it up again -

Here's Dustin Horstmann's testimony on experiencing freedom from lust, which also includes an excellent exposition of Romans on this topic:

I thought seventh day adventists are a cult

We had them in Hemel Hempstead and they had a bible on one side and I asked them whether they would renounce Ellen g whites work as I gave them a choice between the bible and Ellen g white
They refused to give up Ellen gs work

There is a website called wwwformeradventist.com

Which I evangelise with them

Gary,

You said, "Having said that brother I also believe in entire sanctification as a second [blessing]". (Brackets mine)

Amen brother, as do I (but not as any eradication of sinful nature, but a forming of Christ in us, more on this elsewhere).

One difference I think regarding law though, is what I was led to believe by the Spirit is that law/rules will not just breed legalism, but actually arouse in us the desire to do the opposite. If a preacher preaches a legalistic prayer life, it will produce prayerless, and hypocritical pews. Hypocritical because they will begin to follow legalisms most important commandment, "Thou shalt not be found out".

So law will produce the opposite of the very thing it promotes. Thou shalt not is changed to thou shalt, because of the constant and incessant focus on rules (not just Mosaic law, but rules in general) instead of Jesus. This mindset, rule keeping and law, is flesh.

What you said concerning repentance to Robert is only true if we fail to preach it in the way Jesus and the apostles preached it. Turning FROM one thing TO something else. Sadly in our day, on the rare occasion repentance is even preached, it is only preached as turning away from sin, which is false doctrine. It is, "repentance towards God, and faith in Jesus Christ". From sin, self and the world, to Jesus Christ and following Him.

Repentance at its core is a change, or renewal of mind.

Or in the way I understand repentance, turning from literally everything to Jesus and only Him. He leads the way, stay close to Him.

EDIT: One thing I find interesting with seventh day Adventists, is pointing them to Jesus breaking the Sabbath. Some will argue he really didn't, but John says He did, so I believe He did. This goes to show that if anything, even the law, comes between Jesus and His disciple, that thing must go. Yes Jesus was sinless, and the law was not God's initial will, and obedience to it was never the point. The prophets make this abundantly clear.

Yeah Evan I more or less believe the same thing.

If the preacher or teacher is not preaching under an anointing that's filled with the grace of Christ then that can't be imparted through his preaching.

So a legalistic preacher or somebody who has lost the love of Christ through either backsliding or a type of lukewarmness then much of the preaching of repentance wont do much else other than result in the flesh of the listeners trying to restrain itself from sin which never works.

My view is that they may actually be able to stop a certain sin like say adultery but it will definitely manifest in more lustful thoughts and passions and possibly the flesh will just find another outlet to sin, but like you said it could just produce the actual sin that is being preached against because there's no Grace involved to set one free and deliver one from the sin.

I do see repentance though as something that becomes deeper and greater in a Christian's life as Christ is formed within us the repentance becomes more mature so to speak, I believe that Paul clearly teaches that there are babes in Christ and the sign that someone is a baby in Christ is probably two things they haven't been converted for very long and they still operate with carnal thoughts and can appear very much like a worldly person so I think as a development stage it's normal to move through that stage and grow and develop a deeper sense of the flesh and the carnal nature which is what we all have to deal with and we get better at dealing with it as Christ is formed in us and shows us more and more of the power of the old man and how the cross and suffering, the partaking in the sufferings of Christ is how we learn obedience and kill the old man and the holy spirit bears witness with fillings and impartations similar to a second blessing.

I think the objective of that is to have Christ fully formed within us and to be filled with all the fullness of God and that definitely doesn't happen for a number of years after we get converted.

Baptism of the holy spirit is definitely the stage where we experience the Glory and the holiness of God coming upon us and in our soul and allows us to understand how holy Christ was and that we are to walk as Christ walked and so our faith then is focused on the cross and on Christ but also the good news of the gospel that we can be holy like God is holy and we can be perfect and that is something to be pursued through faith I think before baptism of the holy spirit this is impossible to believe,

So I think repentance in its earliest pure root - form is a change of mind and that change of mind continues and that change of mind is wrought by the holy spirit we come to Christ being drawn intently through the conviction of spirit and through the love of the spirit at the same time.

And that leads us to deny ungodly lusts which result in US turning away from sin not in a fleshly way but the new man that's created according to God in true righteousness and holiness is living his life through us and he hates sin.

I almost feel like the old calvinists in one sense that God is responsible and does it all because technically he does because he gives us the ability by setting us free from the old man through the death of the cross that being a duel death we're able to live a life with the abilities that God gives us through Grace to walk in holiness so in one sense it's all God but there is still a resisting temptation and a willingness to become holy that has to be on our part but God so persues us and encourages us and makes it seem like there's no other real option, where could we go because we know he has the words of eternal life like Peter said we have nowhere else to go once we've tasted the Glory all other options become ridiculous.

Yeah I had the same experience with this man that I was debating with who was actually a part of the church that I went to who are not at all Sabbath keepers or seventh-day type of Christians but he was a part of their teaching ministry for a short time , I even did some Street ministry with him but I knew there was something not right when he said that he wanted to start up a messianic Jewish church in our town, but yeah he denied that Jesus broke the Sabbath.

I think Dom's right I think you would have to class them as Judaizers in a biblical sense because seventh-day Adventist definitely add to the gospel and there's another spirit that's operating within the church but at the same time there were probably many genuine born again believers that have been caught up in that and eventually receive a legalistic spirit through the preaching of dietary laws and some of the false teachings that Ellen White taught.
