Here is something very similar and is Paul's (really the Holy Spirit) expounding and teaching as to the Lord's second coming as Jesus taught in the Gospel of Luke and the Spirit's instruction on how to live in the "light" for Christ's arrival.
1 Thessalonians 5:1-8, 14-22. ( selected verses in the stream of thought. )
About the times and the seasons: Brothers and sisters, you do not need anything to be written to you. For you yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night. When they say, "Peace and security,” then sudden destruction will come upon them, like labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. But you, brothers and sisters, are not in the dark, for this day to surprise you like a thief.
For you are all children of light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or the darkness. So then, let us not sleep, like the rest, but let us stay awake and be self-controlled.
For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled and put on the armor of faith and love, and a helmet of the hope of salvation.
And we exhort you, brothers and sisters: warn those who are idle, comfort the discouraged, help the weak, be patient with everyone. See to it that no one repays evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good for one another and for all.
Rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in everything; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. Don’t stifle the Spirit. Don’t despise prophecies, but test all things. Hold on to what is good. Stay away from every kind of evil.
Immediately preceding this exhortation and teaching, Paul preached and exhorted to the same people about how to live in the midst of their present suffering. Here is the Spirit's particularly relevant instruction on being awake as children of the day and the light and not living as those who stumble in the darkness of the "night". I think it is consistent mostly with Brother Lambert's teaching although maybe adding a bit more.
1 Thessalonians 4: 1-8
Additionally then, brothers and sisters, we ask and encourage you in the Lord Jesus, that as you have received instruction from us on how you should live and please God ”‹”” ”‹as you are doing ”‹”” ”‹do this even more. For you know what commands we gave you through the Lord Jesus.
For this is God’s will, your sanctification: that you keep away from sexual immorality, that each of you knows how to control his own body in holiness and honor, not with lustful passions, like the Gentiles, who don’t know God.
This means one must not transgress against and take advantage of a brother or sister in this manner, because the Lord is an avenger of all these offenses, as we also previously told and warned you. For God has not called us to impurity but to live in holiness. Consequently, anyone who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit
This issue of sexual immorality amongst His people and the spiritual meaning of it to God is not well understood. The one who takes advantage of a brother or sister in the area of sexual immorality is warned that God is an avenger of such offenses. Further, it says that the one who engages in this is a rejecter of the Holy Spirit.
Likewise, the sin of covetousness is the sin of idolatry.... a rejection of God. This is the reason God hates idolatry and covetousness so much. It is a despising or rejection of Him.
Overall, Paul , encourages, warns and instructs the church in the last days ,
1. to stay awake by walking in the light of holiness, faith and brotherly love.
2. to not sleep by walking in darkness of drunkenness, impurity, and sexual immorality.
3. to put on the Holy Spirit and pursue love and what is good for all, especially the household of faith.
4. understand that sexual immorality leads to vengeance by the Lord and is received by God as a rejection of the Holy Spirit. (there is repentance with Godly sorrow available I know).
5. to pray and give thanks with joy constantly, (in the middle of your suffering).
6. to not despise prophesy generally but to test the prophets/prophesies holding onto what is good and staying away from what is evil.
1 Thessalonians 4 and 5 is outstanding and classic end times teaching of those things that God wants His people to be aware
of, know and do in the times before He comes.
The Spirit's preaching on how to live in the last day based on, and further explication of, Jesus' teaching of His second coming in Luke is full of good instruction, warning and command.
I'm not being at all critical of or attempting to detract or distract from brother Lambert's preaching. I just happened to be reading in 1 Thessalonians 4 and 5 immediately after I listened to this sermon that Brother Lambert preached and found these passages to be a very helpful commendation of and important adding to Brother Lambert's sharing. I will say that Paul did not address a last day outpouring of the Holy Spirit when addressing God's people on last days questions they had or expectations they should have, but that doesn't rule out the possibility.
Thank you Robert for sharing the scriptures from Thessalonians on the Lord’s second coming, and for summarizing some of these admonitions from the scriptures.
