Clearing my notebook

Clearing my notebook and admitting two things I will likely have to deal with in the coming year.

1) I'm tired of hearing the word "prophetic." So and so is prophetic. There's a new prophetic ministry. Bob and Sally are moving to the prophetic. So and so is prophetic. Did you hear the prophetic word so and so brought? Prophetic this and propheric that. I'm just tired of it and believe the true meaning of prophetic has probably lost a lot of its meaning and intended significance at this point. We have prophetic and prophetic words over here and prophets and prophetic words over there. We have prophetic visions and dreams here and prophetic vision and dreams there. But where is there a true and authentic prophetic voice that doesn't seem to be rehashing what's already been spoken many times? Then we have been informed by the prophetic that the apostle John is alive in the caves of Turkey. I just sort of sigh now when I hear the term "prophetic," but I was doing so even before I heard about this thing in Turkey.

2) So much emphasis on revival. That's all you hear almost. We have been told over and over by the "prophetic" that revival is coming. To be legitimate and in the flow of God, All churches seem to need some type of revival, usually with signs and wonders going on, is parroted everywhere. My main alarm within myself is I believe in revival and I believe we need one. I'mnot quite sure why I don't like being told at this point we need revival. But it's all one hears almost from the mouth of supposed "prophets."

I guess one thing that bothers me is that many who aren't even "prophets" discern that any revival that is coming will do so in the midst of increasing persecution against the church, and Jewish people if I may add. The need for revival is at the top of people's lists but will this revival somehow get the church around coming times of tribulation and opposition? So the prophets say Washington will once again be filled with represenatives of righteousness and America will shine again to the world as a beacon of righteousness. So? And...? Will that eliminate unsaved society's buiding rage against the true church? If there is a coming revival, in what context will it take place in? That's likely what is unsettling to me about all the talk of soon coming revival. It's a one-sided coin being presented. And Jesus Himself said the age will end in a time of trouble such as has never been seen and willl never be seen again. How does revival fit into all this?

Just venting here. It's obvious. I am going to have to have a healing of attitude, I'm pretty sure of that. But I'm weary of recycled and outlandish prophetic words and talk talk talk of revival without the proper context for any coming revival being set. I've already heard it being bantered about, but if the word for the coming year is "More in 24," I hope some of the more isn't more of the same ole.

I once became a disillusioned charismatic because of the presumptuous faith that was in fact a thing of non-reality many times and all the empty slogans repeated just because they were slogans and phrases that this movement had been tauight to use. I guess I'm disilusioned now.

Where is the voice of authenticity? Is this what the Bible means by the prophetic age of revival?

I agree with you, and roll my eyes at the foolishness. On a sober note, Leonard Ravenhill wept and died with a broken heart, saying, "America is simply not willing to pay the price for revival." If he said that almost 40 years ago, what would he say now? Probably that the nation would be destroyed like Sodom and Gomorrah.

Revivals large and small are happening in various parts of the world, especially in places like Iran and mainland China where to follow Christ is to risk death. These saints have counted the cost. No wonder God is honouring their prayers, with signs following.

Then there are parts of the world like Africa and the Caribbean where supernatural activity is the norm, but every wind of doctrine -- and every variety of spirit -- has free course to operate. Dangerous mixture.

Hold fast to your crown, David! We each need to conclude what God has *already* called us to do, be it large or small, public or private, and not pipe dream for something that we may never personally experience, as it never was on God's calendar.
