A battle for purity

1 John 2:16
For everything in the world””the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life””comes not from the Father but from the world.

Job 31:1
"I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a young woman.

In this world we live in we have constantly have to battle with the lust of the eyes and the pride of life and sin

1 John 1:10
If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.

1 Corinthians 6:9
Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men

Of all forms of deception self-deception is the most deadly, and of all deceived persons the self-deceived are the least likely to discover the fraud.

I know denny kesington quoted this

In a world where we have to battle against this I wish that God could sort me out

I wish I could be like David

Psalm 51
King James Version

51 Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.

2 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.

3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.

4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.

5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.

6 Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.

7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

8 Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.

9 Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.

10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.

12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.

13 Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.

14 Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.

15 O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise

I havent commited murder or adultury but we live in a world where we have to fight with things online and so many different things,

It seems a battle within

Probably 40 years ago I heard a sermon by Warren Wiersbe titled "taking a bath in Psalm 51.”

So you can be like David- he wrote the Psalm so we can adopt it. David did some awful things- we all do. Thank goodness God didn’t define him by those awful things- because of Psalm 51.

Definitely a good one to memorize.
