Revival in your community?

Now, as I know it, revivals that were genuine were ones that changed a community. I'm not an end-times person, I have no standing on the debate except this: "It doesnt change the fact that we must: obey, pray, and evangelise."But just a thought that I started considering this afternoon was this: are we really a community now? I live in suburban Sydney, have talked to the neighbours on my right a few times, but other than that everyone around here is happy to pretend everyone else deosnt exist. Oh, and the guy who owns the local fruit shop knows my name. Then theres people from my old (christian) school and church who live around here. I guess what im wondering is: "How will a revival come to our community until there is a community to change?"This isnt a challenge, just a thought provoker, what are your thoughts?

I've not read much on revival, it's one of those things I will get round to, but I have heard a lot of preaching from those who have read such books, Dave Wilkerson, B H Clendennen etc. They come to the conclusion that revival starts when one person gets before God and seriously gives his live over, this ultimately brings revival and that brings a community together. I guess trying to get the community together first is not the way to do it, like everything, we must first seek the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, then God can use us and if He wants a revival there, He has a vessel to work through.

Yeah you have a good point, and I guess you mean all those people Wesley and Booth etc who were so gripped that they "seriously gave thier life over", and ended up apart from the church, only to eventually pull together?revival... brings a community together. I guess trying to get the community together first is not the way to do itI always thought (correct me if Im wrong here) that there was a stronger community in the "olden days". Especially because the big cities weren't all that big, and there was no technology to keep us apart... I could be so far off but i always thought that people acted like a community then, but that has sort of dissapeared lately?? :-)

true, but what is that to us, we are called to preach the Gospel to all creatures, the way I understand it, we can do that in two ways: 1. to go out in our own strength ant tell people what we know about Christ, and 2. To get on fire for Jesus, by giving ourselves over to Him and His filling us, and burn infront of people. both work and are biblical: Phili 1:18 What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.(read the preceding verses for context) but only one method will bring revival. We are not here to make the world a better place (look after it, yes) we are here to do the will of God

allhavsinned, Every time someone tries to start an end-times or pre-destanation debate etc, I use that same argument! but what is that to usur right, it has very little bearing on the fact that we are called to prayer, holiness and evangelism. why cause disunity over things that hinder it? hehe i like your thinking! :-P but i guess i was just wondering what everyone thought. do we have community these days, like they did in the past? or has it changed?and does that mean revival might look a bit different than all the other times? (then again... no revival is the same, and who are we to try and pin-point or predict it?)God bless :-)

It seems from the small amount of reading and speaking I have heard about revival, that during a revival, the Spirit of God overcomes all of the so-called obstacles of the day. In fact, Finney said that many times you will see Satan's devices in full force, and then the revival spreads like fire, or a thunder clap, and many are taken by surprise. But after enough searching, you will always find at least one little saint, broken and undone, that was calling out to God to send a holy fire.

Yeah thats a really good point. It reminds me of on the revival hymn someone says "You met God in the homes of the people"The lack of community won't stop a revival, but a revival will stop the lack of community.
