Two fold ministry.

Historically in the Bible God has shown time and again that the true prophetic gifting in its fullness is the ability to deliver a message of God to help the church in times of particular need (Corinth, Hebrews, Revelation) and to build her up with words that are true spiritual food for nourishment and growth. So very essential. This is undeniable and is woven throughout the OT after God called a people out of Egypt.

Also, and not less, the true prophet was always someone who came and sussed out and called out false prophets and fallen leaders even to their own demise or harm. They were gifted and called for this dual purpose. God told them who the false were and told them the false teaching because His people were self deceived, being deceived and deceiving one another. This side of a true prophet and/or shepherding leader was critical and God appointed and if they neglected this, blood of others would be on their hands. The OT prophets undeniably did this. NT same Think of John the Baptist, Jesus, Paul, writer of Hebrews, Apostle John, and Peter. All the same. The positive path to walk and the ditch of the false prophet/apostle/shepherd and teacher.
Both the current message of the Lord for His people and calling out the false. Both prophesied and both essential because that is the war.

Today, there is a conspiracy of silence amongst those who would call themselves prophets and there is an unspoken covenant not to rock the boat. IF they are true prophets, they are neglecting their appointing and risking their anointing in this failure. Additionally, judgment shall be harsher on them.

The true prophet should know the false one, would never annoint or affirm the false one and would be vigelent to warn the church at large of those lurking in their midst or who might arise among them as Paul did the church in Ephesus for 3 years night and day.

Of course a false prophet will not function in this area of discernment of the false. The personal risk of exposure to themselves is too great.

Finally, there are people who are gifted in hearing from the Lord but they are so prideful or so enamored with the supernatural that they become blind to spiritual conditions that should be otherwise blatant and addressed. The Corinthian church being the prima facie example. Idolatry of spiritual gifts and great outpourings of the Spirit is blinding.

At the end of it, true prophets know, "smell", and call out the false. Part of the gifting, part of the calling and part of their critical ministry, or else judgement on them shall be harsh.

This not rocking the boat is prevalent through our culture now and has influenced the church. The subtle emphasis of this philosophy is that it is more important how we think of others than what we think. But this destroys absolutes and establishes ambiguity.

Of course, when we do rock the boat, as Jeremiah did, it should be with tears and compassion.

Wonderful insight.

The discouragement of this discernment is also heavy on the false prophets agenda, for the same reasons. "Thou shalt not judge" becomes the 11th commandment.

I’m not confident it’s entirely related, but when I read your comment, it reminded me of Jesus weeping upon hearing Lazarus was dead.

I often used to think (as did the Jews) that he wept when Lazarus died because of how much he loved him, but now I sense his tears were related to the disbelief and errant theology of those around him at the time. Their lack of understanding his ways and who he was. Even so, he was so moved by their love of Lazarus and their knowing that Jesus could have healed him if he were there.

Anyway, I say all that to highlight the love (and precious tears) of Jesus working with people who were sincere, but "off” in seeing the bigger picture.

Translating that to our present situation, how moved by love and compassion are we toward those who are "off”, much more those affected by those who are "off”, and do we respond as Jesus with tears and with power?

There is zero ambiguity in Christ Jesus! Always pure truth, with pure love!

Excellent question. Clearly a "you are wrong" spoken in anger is not what's needed. Jeremiah spoke some strong words but there was also the invitation, "yet return to me again, saith the Lord." (Jeremiah 3:1). We need to be very careful not to use the word proudly, harshly, without love, without tears.

Also, I have come to understand the "Jesus wept" verse the same as you have.

Amen brother! I would encourage you to do that study in Jeremiah and Lamentations. The time of Jeremiah closely parallels our day, a time when people knew truth but turned away from God. From those books we can learn how God looks at our own culture and how we can help our generation.

Guys, I agree with your points. Take a look at Revelation 2 and 3 and see if that informs more fully what loving compassion toward His church, bride and children look like and sound like. His words spoken by John to the church in Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis and Laodicea. are instructive about His love and the tone of speech Jesus had towards His Bride and the false teachers and prophets. I’m definitely not saying any has the authority to speak like John spoke prophetically. Just adding some fullness to your truth. It just depends on the need, the state of affairs and the nature of the sins and threats. And those words He spoke to them are meant to be last days instructive . Again, not saying any of us should speak one way or another but as the Lord leads. But seeing His heart expressed in love and compassion is more rich than most people think. I know you know those verses but some may not be able to easily reconcile Jeremiah with Revelation.
