New King James Version\t Par â–¾
Prayer in Time of Chastening
A Psalm of David. To bring to remembrance.
1O Lord, do not rebuke me in Your wrath,
Nor chasten me in Your hot displeasure!
2For Your arrows pierce me deeply,
And Your hand presses me down.

3There is no soundness in my flesh
Because of Your anger,
Nor any health in my bones
Because of my sin.
4For my iniquities have gone over my head;
Like a heavy burden they are too heavy for me.
5My wounds are foul and festering
Because of my foolishness.

6I am [a]troubled, I am bowed down greatly;
I go mourning all the day long.
7For my loins are full of inflammation,
And there is no soundness in my flesh.
8I am feeble and severely broken;
I groan because of the turmoil of my heart.

9Lord, all my desire is before You;
And my sighing is not hidden from You.
10My heart pants, my strength fails me;
As for the light of my eyes, it also has gone from me.

11My loved ones and my friends stand aloof from my plague,
And my relatives stand afar off.
12Those also who seek my life lay snares for me;
Those who seek my hurt speak of destruction,
And plan deception all the day long.

13But I, like a deaf man, do not hear;
And I am like a mute who does not open his mouth.
14Thus I am like a man who does not hear,
And in whose mouth is no response.

15For [b]in You, O Lord, I hope;
You will [c]hear, O Lord my God.
16For I said, "Hear me, lest they rejoice over me,
Lest, when my foot slips, they exalt themselves against me.”

17For I am ready to fall,
And my sorrow is continually before me.
18For I will declare my iniquity;
I will be in [d]anguish over my sin.
19But my enemies are vigorous, and they are strong;
And those who hate me wrongfully have multiplied.
20Those also who render evil for good,
They are my adversaries, because I follow what is good.

21Do not forsake me, O Lord;
O my God, be not far from me!
22Make haste to help me,
O Lord, my salvation

”The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever."

I love how the Psalms address every emotional condition that believers go through and bring encouragement to our hearts.

The Word truly is a lamp and light for us in every area of life.

I know it’s the Message but sometimes the poetry of Psalms comes across nicely:

”I’ve already run for dear life straight to the arms of God.

So why would I run away now when you say, "Run to the mountains; the evil bows are bent, the wicked arrows

Aimed to shoot under cover of darkness at every heart open to God.

The bottom’s dropped out of the country; good people don’t have a chance”?

But God hasn’t moved to the mountains; his holy address hasn’t changed. He’s in charge, as always, his eyes taking everything in, his eyelids

Unblinking, examining Adam’s flesh and blood inside and out, not missing a thing. He tests the good and the bad alike; if anyone cheats, God’s outraged.

Fail the test and you’re out, out in a hail of firestones, Drinking from a canteen filled with hot desert wind. God’s business is putting things right; he loves getting the lines straight, Setting us straight. Once we’re standing tall, we can look him straight in the eye."

I would say I have felt this way at times myself. I think it is part of being human. There is a struggle between our own feelings and what is truth. I appreciate Psalm 23 in response to what you said. It is an amazing statement of what is true in God.

Encourage yourself in some truths from the word of God. Even though you feel burdened with iniquity, if you are born again, you have been declared righteous through the blood of Jesus. Even though your body seems so unsound, you have been given a spirit of power, of love, and of a sound mind in Christ, and He will be your strength.
