Divine Love

"Love is patient, [meaning it is tolerating] love is kind, [it is not mean, or cruel] it is not jealous; [instead it admires] love does not brag, [instead it is modest] it is not arrogant. [instead, it is gentle] It does not act disgracefully, [instead it is honorable] it does not seek its own benefit; [instead it is given for the benefit of others alone] it is not provoked, [instead it calms] does not keep an account of a wrong suffered, [it forgives] it does not rejoice in unrighteousness, [meaning something wicked] but rejoices with the truth; it keeps every confidence, it believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” [1 Cor13:4-7]

Divine Love: Selfless, sacrificial, UNCONDITIONAL love, expecting NOTHING from its recipients. It is the highest form of love.

Where Divine Love Comes From

This kind of love is only cultivated and produced through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Who we receive at our spiritual second birthing. (John 3) As Paul states, "the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit is LOVE, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control…” (Galatians 5:22-23) It is He, the very Spirit of God who produces this divine love through us as we walk in step with Him.

Our Greatest Example Concerning Divine Love

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, [Jesus Christ] so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but so that the world might be saved through Him.” [John 3:16-17]

"You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, [dead in our sins, enemies of God] Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” [Romans 5:6-8]

Through this divine act of love, which has echoed throughout the generations, God calls all to repentance. Look to His only begotten Son by faith to be cleansed inwardly, changed inwardly, and brought into new life ”“ the very resurrected life of Christ! By sharing in His death, which being birthed a second time puts us within, we also get to share in His resurrected life! This is truly divine love’s greatest example for us who know we are truly unworthy of such an unmerited gift; Christ, however, waits with arms wide open for the unworthy who will come to Him in repentance and faith in His finished work on that old cross.

His Example Through Us

However, this love doesn’t stop there. No, it begins there with Christ! Then we who have ourselves experienced the new birth can, through the Holy Spirit, share this divine unmerited love with others. As we share it with them, they take a triple look, because it is not natural! They wonder, "How can people treated so terribly still love? Why are they showing me love when I’m doing my best to show them hate?” This, my brothers and sisters in Christ, is when we truly twice borned can point precious souls to our Lord. Our very walk through even the harshest circumstances through souls precious to our Father, can reveal our Lord’s divine love for them, through us!

Conclusion

Let’s take a slow look over the scriptures we started with today. This is just how I’m feeling led tonight. Let us constantly pray this divine love would overfill us, hitting all the precious souls around us, drowning them in this blessed divine love.

"Love is patient, [meaning it is tolerating] love is kind, [it is not mean, or cruel] it is not jealous; [instead it admires] love does not brag, [instead it is modest] it is not arrogant. [instead, it is gentle] It does not act disgracefully, [instead it is honorable] it does not seek its own benefit; [instead it is given for the benefit of others alone] it is not provoked, [instead it calms] does not keep an account of a wrong suffered, [it forgives] it does not rejoice in unrighteousness, [meaning something wicked] but rejoices with the truth; it keeps every confidence, it believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” [1 Cor 13:4-7]
