For more than twenty years, SermonIndex has worked to gather and freely share the preaching that has stirred the church toward revival — the voices of men who called God's people back to holiness, to the cross, and to Christ Himself. Tens of thousands of sermons from over a thousand preachers now sit in one place, free to anyone in the world.
But there is a quiet danger in "one place."
Everything that lives on a single set of servers can be lost from a single set of servers — through cost, through hardware failure, through pressure, or through a decision made far above our heads. An archive this precious should not hang on so thin a thread.
The SermonIndex Node Software exists to change that.
What it is
It's a free desktop app that turns your computer into a living part of the archive. You use it to browse and download sermons to keep and listen to offline — and in the background, your app quietly shares those same files with others, computer to computer, all around the world. There is no central server doing the work. The network is the people running it.
The more of us who run it, the stronger and more permanent the archive becomes.
Why we are doing this
The sermons we host are not entertainment. They are the recorded pleadings of preachers who gave their lives to call the church awake. That inheritance belongs to the whole body of Christ — to the believer in a house fellowship who has never owned a Christian book, to the pastor in a nation where such preaching is forbidden, to a generation not yet born who will need these words long after we are gone.
We want to place that inheritance beyond the reach of any single failure, or any single hand.
How it works, simply
Download the sermons you want — they're yours, offline, permanently. Your app then shares them with the network, so every download makes the archive a little more redundant. Volunteers called seed nodes hold large portions — or the entire library — and keep it available around the clock; a dedicated drive, or a small always-on machine like a Raspberry Pi, is perfect for this. And a signed master list guarantees every file is authentic, so nothing false can ever be slipped into the network.
The vision
With seed nodes distributed across the world, the sermon library becomes essentially indestructible. No single point of failure. No government can censor it. The content lives on across the body of Christ.
"How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news" — Isaiah 52:7
That is the whole hope in a few sentences. Not a company guarding an archive, but the church herself carrying it — thousands of ordinary computers in homes, on shelves, beside routers, across dozens of nations, together forming something no outage and no authority can erase.
What could come of this
Imagine the archive scattered so widely that losing it becomes impossible — mirrored across continents, quietly healing itself every time a node comes online. Imagine these sermons reaching places with fragile internet or open hostility to the gospel, passed from hand to hand where they could never be streamed. Imagine, decades from now, these same messages still preaching — still calling men and women to Christ — because the body of Christ chose to carry them.
That is what every person who runs a node helps to build. Not a website that might one day go dark, but a fire handed from house to house that cannot be put out.
