Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness. Stay with the KJV it can come to you in the night, stiring life within you. It can be planted into the soul, passages never memorized, are just there within. Yep, The KJV has my vote.dullrainbow

Somehow two threads posted here when I tried to do one, so I guess I'll say something meaningful here:II Peter 3:3-4a "Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts. And saying, Where is the promise of his coming?"

KJV.Gets a vote of a billion % I have no doubt on that. The most informing of Gods word. When truly in the Holy Spirit, it reads as the living word of God, that comes alive in his presence. Through which he speaks to us, the secrets that he wants to tell us. Father to child.Amen. ellie

I will cast my vote with the King James Version also. Besides being an accurate translation, it has been around long enough that the areas that they mistranslated have been documented.

When I wrote this I thought I was replying to someone else question on the best translation of scriture. It was not my intention to start a new thread. Sorry...Eileen

dullrainbow,Interestingly enough, the NASB comes to me in the middle of the night too. It comes to me in the middle of the day as well... both day and night watches. There are plenty of passages I know as well that I've never memorized, yet are just there when I need them. Now that I'm learning Koine Greek in seminary, I can't wait until this starts happening in Greek as well, especially with the NA27 and UBS4 texts. Then again, it might happen with others as well. Either way, it will be the Holy Spirit.

I never understand why people make such a big, big issue out of this. Yes, it is true that so many of the modern translations and paraphrases are terrible renderings of God's holy Word. I would agree that they should be avoided. However....What is, after all, the big deal with the KJV? I, for one, prefer other translations - not just because they are more readable - but because they are even more accurate (try, for instance, the ASV, Darby, RSV, or even the NKJ, Holman, ESV... but *none* of these, or the KJV, will translate every verse as accurately as possible every time).Certainly, the KJV may be more preferable for beauty and form, but that is not always the "be-all and end-all".Just my thoughts. :-)

OK. I'll be 'that legalistic KJV' guy."areas that they mistranslated have been documented"Let's start with one 'mistranslation'. I will give an answer for it. I have studied this area before I decided on the KJV, and have found these arguments to be about as impressive as a two man wave at a ballgame (borrowed that from Ray Comfort). So one might say we can go all night discussing supposed 'mistranslations', but like Ravi Zacharias says of Bible contradictions: 'How about we start with one?'

I'll give you two. Ephesians 1:5andJohn 14:2In these two verses, the KJV mistranslated words that were unfortunately then passed into other renderings. The KJV's mistranslation of the word "sonship" as "adoption" in the first verse has caused many to hold the erroneous view that we hold the relationship to God of children being "adopted" into his family through some kind of procedure, rather than being being begotten into His family by His life (John 3:3, John 1:13, Romans 8:29, 1 John 3:1, 1 John 4:7, etc). The KJV's mistranslation of the word "abodes" (as in v. 23 of John 14) as "mansions" in the second verse is the capstone for the shallow "heavenly mansion" teaching that has pervaded so much of Christian thought now for many years, rather than the higher view that the Lord Jesus is preparing an eternal place for us with Him in His abiding with the Father!

Dan,Of Ephesians 1:5You stated: 'the erroneous view that we hold the relationship to God of children being "adopted" into his family through some kind of procedure'There is a procedure. Justification through His blood. We are born of water, or born in the flesh, and must then be born of the spirit. We are first a wild olive tree, and then must be grafted to the fat olive tree. So just the same a child must be adopted into a new family, we must be adopted from our human nature, into a spirital birth.Of John 14:2Webster's for mansion: 1) the act of remaining or dwelling2) a large imposing residence3) seperate apartment or lodging in a large structure4) one of the 28 parts into which the moon's monthly course through the heavens is dividedWebster's for abode: 1) wait, delay2) a temporary stay, sojourn3) the place where one abidesHere is a description of where we will live in Heaven, and see which of the two fit more accurately:Rev 21:16b "and he measured the city with a reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the bredth and the height of it are equal"That's 90 million acres, and 375 miles high. 1 Cor 2:9 "But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him."

Just a thought...Could it be that a mistranslation of the bible has less to do with the text, and more to do with the person/people reading the bible? Blake

Dear Brethren,I see Ray Comfort's Evidence Bible is called an Easy-read KJV. Would like to try it out. Maybe that would be the best?Strange how most of us have a whole bunch of Bibles and yet there are believers who don't own a Bible. I think some of them could not care what translation is the best, if they could just own something translated into their own languages. In Him,Gery

Brother Gery,I obtained the "Evidence Bible" several months ago and as far as a "witnessing Bible" i find it most effective in its layout or format. The Bible itself is very inexpensive and if you ever get one you will see what i'm talking about in regards to how simple a witness Bible it is and packed with so many many articles on witnessing and how to respond, etc, etc.

Brother, you haven't shown me that these two phrases are not mistranslations. They are still inaccurate. While it is true that there is a "procedure", this procedure is for a spiritual begetting into God's family, a birth that makes us brothers of the firstborn and children of the Father (how wonderful is it that the Lord says "OUR Father" at the start of His famous prayer in Matthew). This is *not* "adoption".As for the mistranslation of "mansion" in John 14:2, I feel that this is a really serious error. This verse alone is the only verse in the entire Bible to support the notion that the Lord Jesus ascended into heaven to spend these last 2,000 years building His redeemed believers some sort of custom-built housing estate. I really, really believe the Lord Jesus has a higher, deeper, more glorious, more spiritual view. I really hope so.The very first verse in Revelation makes it clear that the book is a book of signs, wonderful, awesome, mysterious signs that show us an eternity of a glorious everlasting abiding between God and man in a city and in a marriage. This city and this marriage is what I really long for. Not a custom-built "mansion".

Dan,Both cases seem crystal clear to me of being more accurate. I suppose we just agree to disagree.1) Adoption from earthly family to spirit family.2) Custom built dwelling for a particular people A certain number: Mark 13:27a "And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect"A certain place built for them: John 14:2b and 3 "I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."I don't see how you can get any more custom than "I prepare place for you" (the elect). A particular place for a particular people.
