Revival comes from heaven when heroic souls enter the conflict determined to win or die-or if need be, to win and die! 'The kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.'-Charles G. FinneyI featured this quote by Charles G. Finney for the month of November on SermonIndex. I personally was moved by the quote in many ways:i. Revival Tarries?.I have read part of the 'Revival Lectures' by Finney and it seems he puts out a point of view that differed alot from the normal status quo message of the day concerning revival. He believed that Revival could come if God's people were seeking it. The other point of view states that God sends revival when He pleases and that revival is totally a soveriegn work of God; including its arrival.ii. The War is waging.I believe that Finney was right when he basically puts out the idea that God will show people the need for revival before it comes. 'Revival presupposes declension.' Once Christians realize the great need for God to revive His people then these people will be convicted to pray and expect God to work for His names sake. iii. Who is willing?God is calling for people to enter into this spiritual warfare for revival. Read Isaiah Chapter 6 in this light, are you a person who God will entrust this message of revival. Are you going to take heaven by force? storming the gates of heaven till Grace flows down?

I have read 'Revival Lectures' by Finney twice through and am convinced that Revival is absolutely needed today and is the only solution for this backslidden generation. Finney insisted that Revival was to be promoted. That as the Farmer turns the soil and plants the seed, he may expect the crop to be produced, so it is true with revival. Once someone asked Finney after he had left New York and became president at Oberlin College, why have there not been any revivals. Finney stated that it was not true, that here at the College they have had 17 consecutive winters of revival. Finney not only talked about revival but he proved that it could be promoted. I am convinced that Isaiah 59 is the key to the lack of revivals in America and Canada. Isaiah 591 Behold, the LORD's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.It is not the Lord that is with holding revival but it is the Christians carnality that is severing the relations he once had. This is what holds back Gods blessing. We have forgotten our first love. I had a chance to talk to a new convert from Catholicism to Evangelicalism and I asked him how he came to be a converted. His concluding statement was that his head knowledge became heart knowledge and he felt the presence of God revealed within him. Deeply moved he ask how is it that Jesus would reveal himself to me. Ah, there is a sound conversion, no outside intervention but God reviling his son to a sinner.

I have read 'Revival Lectures' by Finney twice through and am convinced that Revival is absolutely needed today and is the only solution for this backslidden generation.I never finished it! I read through I believe the first 3 chapters and it was such a powerful calling for revival that he said if you read on and your heart is not right with God 100% then your reading will be judgement on yourself.I am waiting now for the leading of the Holy Spirit if I should read the book it definetly will set your heart ablaze for revival and for God to work.It is not the Lord that is with holding revival but it is the Christians carnality that is severing the relations he once had. This is what holds back Gods blessing. We have forgotten our first love. Amen! I really appreciate your words brother! It's so true, how many of us are feeling sad about our relationship with God how its not satisfying us! How about God; he deserves the obedience that is due to His Name. We bear His name let us come back to a first love for Jesus sake not our own. I was just reading about that! in Duncan Campbell's book: The Nature of a God-sent revival."we just left them to God and God did it!""You can go back , and you can go back again, and you'll find them pressing on with the God that revealed, not only Himself to them, but revealed Himself in them."
