Hi Lazarus1719...!The Lakewood Church didn't buy the Astrodome (where both the Houston Astros and Houston Oilers baseball and football teams used to play). They purchased a 30-year lease of the Compaq Center, where the Houston Rockets basketball team used to play. The Astrodome is not the same place as the Compaq Center.http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/stories/2002/12/16/daily28.htmlhttp://www.khou.com/news/local/houstonmetro/stories/khou031201_jd_lakewoodchurch.5df4959a.htmlhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compaq_Center_%28Houston%29 :-)

Hi RobertW...!Lakewood Church purchased a 30-year lease of the Compaq Center from the City of Houston. The Compaq Center was formerly known as The Summit, and was an arena where the Houston Rockets NBA team used to play. It seats about 18,000.The Astrodome was a large domed-stadium where The Houston Astros baseball team and Houston Oilers football team used to play. Currently, only a few events for the Houston Livestock and Rodeo are held there, along with a few high-school sporting events. It seats quite a few more people than the Compaq Center (about 55,000 of a baseball game, and 62,000 for a football game). Many people in Houston are hoping that the Astrodome will be demolished by 2009 or 2010, since it is hardly used and is located in a very expensive property district. The two structures are not the same. :-)
