Scriptural Interpretation?

Scripture is it's best commentary-William FitchI personally think this is a great viewpoint which seems simplistic but will help us from falling into so many snares and traps in inerpretating the Scriptures. I appreciate many of the old brethren scholars who in there great commentaries of the Scriptures basically just compare the spiritural with spiritural, scripture with scripture. Is this method your first foundational rule in interpretating Scripture?

I think I may have mentioned this on another thread but I love the comment of Spurgeon to his students. "Be diligent in reading your Bible, you will find it throws great light on the commentaries". (this is not word perfect but it gets the sense)
