Our prayers are hindered, when we have a issue with a brother/sister in the Lord. If we are slandering or gossiping, or any of the deeds of the flesh, these are sins and need to be repented of before the Lord will hear us in the normal relationship He has provided. 1John 1:6 If we say that we have fellowship with him and walk in the darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: 1John 1:7 but if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 1John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 1John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1John 1:10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. This doen't mean when speaking the Truth in love, with our hearts so full of compassion, for the people of God, and you get someone offended because they didn't like what you said, etc. I believe if the Lord has not convicted you ,no need to repent, but remain humble and pure.As for Why? If your self-righteous and full of pride, You are in for a discipline season from the Lord. I believe He always hears His children, but only responds when He sees the image of Jesus shinning in our hearts :-)
Dear Doug,SIN hinders our prayers.In His love,Gery
There is an axiom in scripture:If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me: (Psalm 66:18)and again,But your iniquities have seperated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear. (Isaiah 59:2)
I wanted to mention how much I enjoyed the Audio Sermon on A Quiet Time on Prayer.
I agree with all the points made on this thread. There is one other thing that can hinder our prayers and that is when we run ahead of God and try to be God. When we pray for something it means we have to back off and wait for God to act either in me, and/or in others. With our two wayward sons, I pray "Lord, do not let me interfer with your work in their lives." Now I promise you moms do get very anxious....we wanted them saved yesterday because tomorrow just might be too late! ginnyrose
