I just heard that the RED CROSS is changing it's symbol because it's offensive to radical Islamic's. Is this for real?They want to change it to a neutral symbol to not offend other religions...In Christ,Doug
In Europe we've been changing to a Green cross for years - first aid kits and cupboards... it's the new 'standard'.I don't know if that's what the 'Red Cross' have in mind. Interestingly, it is legal in the UK to put up a RED CROSS without planning permission, to signify a place of healing. Thus, churches are free to use this to attract attention to their message and location (as well as health clinics).
I quite certain this is an urban myth... kinda like atheists trying to get Christian broadcasting banned in the United States.I think Christians are the most gullible people for urban mythes.If this IS true, and someone can validate it, I'd be interested in knowing. I doubt they would change because they would have to change their name too. But maybe it will be like when Prince changed his name to a symbol. Hi dougkristen...!The International Red Cross changed their symbol in Islamic nations a long time ago (in 1983). In Islamic nations, the organization is called the Red Crescent. It is sad, but true. I am a Volunteer Chaplain with the Red Cross, when I went thru the training they required, besides already being Ordained Minister, Rabbi, or priest, we were told that the Cross is not a Christian symbol, it is part of the Swiss flag , the colors inverted, which was the founders country and was orginially to give neutraility to medics in time of war. The Red Cross is neutral on Religion, in fact we, the Chaplains in the U.S.are actually "Sprirtual Care Services" we are to support and minister to whatever beliefs of the person we are caring for. Yes the Lord works in very discreet ways sometimes.Asa far as I remember the Crescent in Muslims countries is true.The Red Cross is very firm on humanitarium efforts, first and foremost.Carl

I'm not knocking the Red Cross, or other big charities like that, but I am very selective about where I give money. The Red Cross does get my blood tho.But as far as money is concerned, we give only to local charities. For instance here in Asheville NC we have Hearts With Hands & Samaritan's Purse. I know who the people are behind the organization.We also give to a local Baptist Church whose outreach is so incredible, and I have volunteered to help them out at times as well. That little Baptist church of about 150 people own 3 tractor trailers which are right now shipping goods to Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. In the past they have shipped goods to Florida and the Carolina Coast after hurricanes went thru. Last year it was our turn to get hit by hurricanes Francis and Ivan, and they opened up their facilities for people to come get showers and hot food. They also own a print shop and print their own Bibles (KJV)... last year they printed over 10,000 Bibles and distributed some to soldiers leaving for Iraq, and also to hurricane victimes.Remember.. this is a church of 150 people!Me personally, I prefer to give to charities where I can also be actively involved. I'm NOT telling people to not give to teh Red Cross or Salvation Army. I'm simply saying dont be satisfied to just write a check! Get involved too.Krispy
Along the lines of this discussion has anyone heard about the small uproar in Pennsylvania over the memorial plan that was unveiled there last week? The memorial is to remember the 40 people on United Airlines Flight 93 that was hijacked and crashed near Shanksville, Pa, on Sept. 11, 2001. Called the "The Crescent of Embrace", the design selected from over 1,000 entries, is a plan to plant Red Maple trees on the crash site... in the curious shape of a crescent. So every fall, aircraft passengers that fly over the crash site will be able to see a giant red crescent.I'm sure it wasn't conceived with an intentional connection to Islam, but shouldn't someone have noticed the possible offense? :-?
