An brief history of SermonIndex

sermonindex Nov 20, 2003

August - November 2002 - I felt the calling of God to digitize audio/video messages of the late Leonard Ravenhill who was a revivalist in the later 1900’s. His message to the Church of Jesus Christ was simple and straight forward; “Repent!” but sadly how few heard the voice of this man of God. So I desired to promote his messages as much as I could for free to the body of Christ. I did this in many various ways: handing out cd’s, setting up small websites, getting hosting on other audio sermon websites, etc.December 2002 - January 2003 - Through much prayerful consideration it was decided to start my own website to host the audio and video files on a dedicated server. Therefore the website: www.sermonindex.net came to be in operation in December 2002. Since it has began there have been numerous changes to the website as I have been literally learning how to run a website as I went by faith.February - October 2003 - In this time period God layed it upon my heart to find many other classic preachers to share there sermons also. People started to send audio tapes from all over the world. And many dear brothers and sisters in Christ offered their time to help digitize audio/video sermons for the website. Many other brothers and sisters in Christ have been supporting this ministry by any means they can. I also had the chance to network with many larger Christian websites to offer sermons on their websites so that the sermons could reach many more people. November 2003 – (to date) - Even to this date, tapes of various kinds of many classic preachers from the past have been coming in through many different means. Some people just mailing them in, the Lord leading me to resources through word of mouth. I am starting to network more with churches, ministries and laypeople; so that these sermons and messages can make an impact even on the local community level. There is more time being put into administration and infrastructure so that others can help share the burden of this Ministry and actively help promote the resources.

Thanks for the history Greg!Truly the Lord is using this site to bless, challenge, and encourage many. I will say that you are doing a outstanding job and are deserving of much thanks and support! Also to everyone who has helped out in ways that may be unseen, whoever you are, may God Bless You!I have said it before and will say it again; In the short time I have been here I have gained so much, been blessed incredibly, challenged in my thinking, been touched by the love, concern, and true Christian fellowship in the forums. Been rebuked in love ( :-D ), had my heart expanded and grown more in love with the Lord Jesus.I believe my first post stated "What a goldmine!"And I will stand by that statement!May God continue to Bless this ministry and all who frequent it. What an awesome group of believers. And to Greg, you will always be in my prayers Brother.Mike

I thank God that I found this site! It is so difficult to find good, "meaty" messages, and this site was a wonderful find! I had alot of tapes of Leonard Ravenhill that I loaned a missionary, and unfortunately, never got back. But this site more than makes up for it! :)I hope the word about this site continues to get around -- so that many other believers will discover the great resources available here! Jeremiah 29:11-13
