Oliver Cromwell

What do you all think about Oliver Cromwell? Especially you English folk :-) ?

I think he was a man of political integrity but poor spiritual judgement. I think his motives were right, but his actions were misdirected. It is interesting that this period of English history experienced the most authentic apostolic ministry in our history; namely that of George Fox. Cromwell comtemplated becoming king and was advised personally be George Fox not to do so: There were several meetings between Cromwell and Fox which make interesting reading.

Ah George Fox. I was just reading about him yesterday in the book "Deeper Experiences of Famous Christians." Pretty fascinating character. I had no idea that him and Cromwell had met, that is very interesting.I was impressed by what I read about Fox. Sounds like he was a man full of the Holy Spirit. Though I remember reading Bunyan's autobiography and He had some qualms with the Quakers. I guess some of their theology was off. Bound to happen when you jump from one extreme (formalism) to another.

I was just reading about him yesterday in the book "Deeper Experiences of Famous Christians." :-) That's really funny Eli, I was pursing the book shelf this evening and had pulled that same book off, I was just reading the same section..." In spiritual matters Fox seems to have had a discernment far in advance of any other person of his day. Thus, while others were contending that the "body of sin" was the natural body, or body of flesh, Fox taught that the natural body was not the "body of sin" or we would not have been commanded to "put it off."
