How does Revival start?

sermonindex Nov 20, 2005

Neh. 2:1-3 (NASB) (Emphasis Added) 1 And it came about in the month Nisan, in the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, that wine was before him, and I took up the wine and gave it to the king. Now I had not been sad in his presence. 2 So the king said to me, "Why is your face sad though you are not sick? This is nothing but sadness of heart." Then I was very much afraid. 3 I said to the king, "Let the king live forever Why should my face not be sad when the city, the place of my fathers' tombs, lies desolate and its gates have been consumed by fire?" Some people say 'why are you so down at the church?' Or 'why are you troubled? you normally aren't'And we can't help but say 'because you uncle, my uncle, our families are going to hell, and on top of that, thousands die daily without having a chance to hear the gospel and be saved, others just reject it because they don't understand; because this generation is going to hell and no one is doing nothing about it' I'm not saying that everyone is quiet. But, very few are 'sounding the trumpet'. Just a few loud voices (can reach the ends of the earth, but still miss next door), but only go 'so far'.Our communites are going to hell. Our neighbors may see us everyone once in a while, but they are going to hell.Do we greive? Do we mourn? It's said (from theologians) that Nehemiah mourned, fasted, and prayed for about 4 MONTHS because of Israel's conditions. That's the start of a Revival or in Nehemiah's case 'Rebuilding the Temple'.God give us a GREIVING SPIRIT. Give us a spirit that mourns and fasts and sacrifices our lives for You and Your People's sake!"This generations of Christians is responsible for this generation of souls on the earth!" by Keith Green

You know this is really awful.. knowing about it and not feeling anything for it.Sure I find it very awful, but there are no tears for such things yet. I don't know why, I can't just force myself crying or weeping... it would be like professional mourners weeping as its their duty to weep. I asked God for this brokenness a few times, I don't know what will happen and how he will move me to it. But I find it harder and harder to attend meetings where they don't preach repentance.. Someone at my church which does guest services that they purely want to show Gods love. They deliberately preach and give one-sided messages. How then can we show Gods love if we don't include all sides of the gospel? I don't like it at all that I'm thinking differently then other people in my church about this.. there is a part of me that just wants to attend meetings and feel good about it. Not having a different mindset about this then others. There also was a praise-evening that sunday.. and I prayed that I wouldn't have to think about this that evening. That I could just sing there and be glad. Its just so often that I cannot agree about things that it doesn't let me alone. And they talked about how wonderful Rick Warrens 40 purpose driven days ways...Lately I was attending a praise-meeting and after the message they asked people to choose for Him and I went sad.. all my joy to stand there singing was gone. Why not if you tell about Gods love you also tell what it means to actually follow Him? You can have people agree in His love but without following, repentance they will still go to hell.Is it that we have to hide it? Jesus wasn't crucified far away from the city.. He was crucified like in front the city with a major road near it.. What do we have to hide?I would see people clapping, being glad and someone jumping. How could I do that with knowing that there would be people here that would never really follow God? That there would be people going to hell as they don't live their lives for Him?I so sincerely hope that I'm wrong about this.. it bothers me knowing the things I know and I don't like that. But if it's true I want God to continue pointing at the things going around me, molding me and shaping me that I can be so broken about it that God can use me.You all know the parable of the treasure hidden in the field? It's really short but says so much already.. (Matthew 13:44)This man sold everything to buy the field because he knew what treasure it contained, he was happy selling everything! I feel that a lot people don't see the real value of this treasure and never will. They only want to sell of a small part and enjoy having these other things. Now the following is not included in this parable, but I can very imagine that this man gave a ridicules high price in the eyes of many as it would just appear a barren piece of land. Surely he could get away by selling only a part of his possessions. But the value of the treasure is so great that it makes all your own possessions like trash. Wouldn't it be madness to still care about your own possessions if you knew about this treasure? Yes, it would seem like madness to others.. giving up all for seemingly nothing. But madness would be to stick to your old life and have Jesus as an added extra.People are called to have this treasure and bargain as much they can for it and eventually they don't possess this treasure. Don't we want to save people instead of cheating them (and God)?Jesus didn't bargain but gave all He had, His life, His precious blood for us! Why can't the whole truth be preached? And how come others in my church are not seeing this? This bothers me and hopefully God will have me broken for it.I'm praying God for wisdom regarding this as I don't really know what to do.For now all I can and must do is letting myself be shaped by God, I'm not a hero at all and still not close to being like Jesus as I look into my life.About sounding the trumpet, that reminded me of the revival hymn. "The church of Jesus Christ is largely sleeping.... don't wake me up".I sometimes hope its not true as it would mean that a lot people would not be saved. I also realized that I am not being deceived. Satan would never want broken repented people, satan never stands for the Truth or people's best interests as he is the father of lies. Love and Truth, don't they go hand in hand?I wonder if I ever will see a revival on earth in these times. It's something from stories and sermons preached by preachers in the past for me. :-(

Dear Warrior,First I should say you should PRAISE the Lord that you feel differently! You should change your mindset about this- You said you know you aren't being decieved- this is worth your undying thankfulness, love and praise unto God!If you are just coming into this realization and you want to be sure about this and really desire in the depths of your spirit to have a spirit of tears and to know the heart of our God, you will need to do more that just ask for it a few times. My advice is to proove you want it. Fast for it. Beg for it. Spend hours travailing in prayer for it. Remember James 1:5-7.5But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. 7For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord...Believe He will answer you and you will recieve a revalation of His heart and you will start grieving for your brothers and sisters in your church. I am certainly not the expert or anything, but it seems to me that if the Lord is showing you what is going on and the truth of the matter, then it is a very good possibility that He is calling you to tell the others in your church. I would certainly pray about it and ask the Lord how He wants you to handle the situation.Cetainly not all people will listen- He tells us in His precious Word to 13"Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. 14"For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it..... 21"Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. 22"Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?' 23"And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.'It's true this is the greatest treasure anyone could ever find, and it costs us everything! That's why Jesus tells us to count the cost. Not everybody will pay what it costs..."What does it profit a man to gain the whole world but lose his soul?" people don't understand and God will give you the heart that breaks for these people and will give you the desire to weep and travail for them, just like Paul did.God Bless you Warrior!

“To the church a revival means humiliation, a bitter knowledge of failure, and an open and humiliating confession of sin on the part of her ministers and people. It is not the easy and glowing thing many think it to be, who imagine that it fills the empty pews, and reinstates the Church in power and authority. IT COMES TO SCORCH BEFORE IT HEALS; it comes to rebuke ministers and people for their unfaithful witness, for their selfish living, for their neglect of the Cross, and to call them to daily renunciation, to an evangelical poverty, and to a deep and daily consecration. This is why a revival has ever been unpopular with large numbers within the Church. Because it says nothing to them of power such as they have learned to love, or of ease of success; it accuses them of sin, it tells them that they are dead, it calls them to awake, to renounce the world, and to follow Christ.” Revivals: Their Laws and Leaders by James Burns

God give us a GREIVING SPIRIT. Give us a spirit that mourns and fasts and sacrifices our lives for You and Your People's sake!I'm not sure God needs us to have a grieving spirit, Josh; that's because we can't function properly in that state. I accept there may be a need to fast, but you know what Jesus said about that... Then, when we've been revived, we will sacrifice willingly.Psalm 139 has a few things to say. I always feel its purpose is to comfort us with the knowledge of God's presence, holding and keeping our lives in such a way that we can never find ourselves beyond His reach. If we find this Psalm disturbing, then we do indeed need to ask Him to reveal what is causing us to fear?If you're serious, sing this properly. Let it get right under your skin until every word has tried your heart and mind; then, trust God to bring it to pass in you. (People will notice the difference. :-) )Search me, O God,And know my heart today;Try me, O Savior,Know my thoughts, I pray.See if there beSome wicked way in me;Cleanse me from every sinAnd set me free.I praise Thee, Lord,For cleansing me from sin;Fulfill Thy Word,And make me pure within.Fill me with fireWhere once I burned with shame;Grant my desireTo magnify Thy Name.Lord, take my life,And make it wholly Thine;Fill my poor heartWith Thy great love divine.Take all my will,My passion, self and pride;I now surrender, LordIn me abide.O Holy Ghost,Revival comes from Thee;Send a revival,Start the work in me.Thy Word declaresThou wilt supply our need; For blessings now,O Lord, I humbly plead.http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/s/e/searchme.htm

In the Welsh revival, the cry was Lord bend me, bend me. Prior to that the old-timers prayed for a "breaking" to occur.I know that a tremendous conviction of sin is one barometer that revival has come. Without the conviction of sin, repentance cannot come. Repentance is a work of the Spirit and can only be accomplished as the Holy Spirit puts his finger on sin.I pray that he does that in every willing heart on this board. As my pastor says "Our problem is that we're too big and God is too small." Oh sovereign Lord remember me! This was the cry of Sampson after his eyes were gouged out and it's the cry of my heart as well.
