sermonindex Dec 28, 2005

In a game show-style giveaway, a church plans to award a $120,000 three-bedroom house to one of its worshippers on New Year's Eve."It encourages people to come to the service, and it helps keep people off the street with all that revelry going on," said pastor Walter Hallam.During Saturday's service, 20 names will be selected at random and placed with 100 others chosen from services throughout the year. Twelve finalists _ symbolizing the 12 apostles _ will be selected.

I think it might be more that it's sad that a church has to give away a house to get people into the pews...Grace and Peace...

Unfortunately this did happen. Here is the church's website: http://www.alcc.org/home.asp?ID=2, which you can copy and paste in your browser.

Wow. This indeed is outrageous! Only in America..."“This year, we are going to be able to bless someone with a brand new three-bedroom home,” says Pastor Walter Hallam. The Bible says in John 14:2 that there are mansions in heaven for us, and that Jesus has prepared one for each of us. So, Pastor Hallam came up with “Home on earth, Mansions in Heaven,” as a theme for the church’s annual watchnight service. “Although one person will win a home on earth, several hundred will make commitments to Christ and receive a heavenly home,” he says. Clearly...the 'abundant life' mentioned in the website is not the "abundant life" mentioned in Scripture by the Lord of Glory.
