Trip to Las Vegas

F
Forevidence Dec 28, 2005

We have been planning a Vegas trip for this weekend of New Year's. We are headed up there with about 14 people. 7 guys and 7 girls. Everything seems to be going smoothly and God is moving mightily in our meetings for prayer and bible study.Everything seems to be provided for in the realm of finances as well as shelter. So no need for that but...We are going down there to open air and street witness and hand out a myriad of tracts. I know that the time will be intense so I am asking for prayer from the leadership of this ministry and also the rest of the people on the site. Please pray for us!!

I just heard about you guys coming out to Las Vegas. How awesome is our God!We'll be meeting at Shadow Hills Baptist Church at 1 p.m. for an hour of prayer. Next we'll break into teams and drive down to the Strip. I've posted that the time on the Strip will be from 2:30 until 7:00 and then heading out for dinner. But if we get enough people I'm sure we could stay down there longer. I know that Greg Stephens from Calvary Chapel Spring Valley will be heading down at 7 p.m. with several junior and high school students. I also know that my roommate from the Evangelism Bootcamp 6 will be in front of the Bellagio with other Street Preachers. At this time I'm looking for more Open Air Preachers to team with those doing the one-2-ones and tract passing. What was your plan for New Years Eve? Also will you be out the Friday night with John on Fremont Street?

At this time I'm looking for more Open Air Preachers to team with those doing the one-2-ones and tract passing. What was your plan for New Years Eve? Also will you be out the Friday night with John on Fremont Street?Yeah we don't really have much plans on the New Year's eve. We were just going to be led by the Spirit. Maybe we will just tag along with you guys. Probably about 4 of us would be willing to open air preach and are ready for it. but God might compel others just let me know what you want us to do. We are willing to serve alongsideI dont know if we will make it out early enough to vegas to to go witness with John and the brothers. But if we do... then we will go out. One thing was that in the morning we were going to go with John Laport to feed homeless people with Downtown Calvary Las Vegas. I think that is earlier in the morning. I would love to get together and just pray with you guys at the church. Please give me contact info...

Give me a call on my cell phone I would be such a blessing if your team would join us. I live a few miles from the house John Laporte resides in. If you finish in time in the morning, my wife and I could come by the house and then lead you to Shadow Hills Baptist Church. Let me know what you think the Lord is leading you to. Some of the guys that will be out on Friday night will be joining us on Saturday at the Mini-EBC.

I want to thank everbody that prayed and endeavored to make this trip a success. The amount of prayer by us alone that went it into this trip was alot, but those who co-labored with us to travail that Christ might be formed in Las Vegas.I want to thank all the GNN folk over in Las Vegas as well as the Local leader there in Vegas, Doug Koch. God bless you guys. We will pray that God, by some means may allow us, by His will to to come see you again. That we might encouraged with you by the mutual faith we all hold. Also for John Laporte and all the folks at the discipleship house who allowed us to stay their with such warm welcomes. We out here in Cali hope to come to you again that we might have some fruit among you for the glory of God.Vegas was an intense trip. We who went had a difficult time, but God was faithful. We open-air preached dozens of times, past out thousands fo tracts and preached to hundreds of people. Many seeds planted but very little reaping. I pray that God would remove this curse of barreness of us in this desperate hour that Vegas might become a virtuous city instead of sin city. Vegas, statistically has the least amount of Christians in the whole United States, and has also been known as a pastoral graveyard for many pastors. Pastors don't too often last more than 2 years. Only two pastors in the whole city have endured such a vortex of iniquity and have been there for over 20 years.O God help that city! As I sit here typing I remember one vivid picture which will for a long time be etched in as a picture of the world. Before the count down to the New Year a friend and I preached our hearts out to crowds who awaited a New Year to fill in with new sins, new wickedness, and new inventions of how to sin! As we pleaded for men and women to make thier resoltuions well, and to mind Christ as their hope for a New Heart and New birth; the crowds scorned and derided and chanted against the Lord and His servants. We, with utter sunken hearts, and tear filled eyes, anguish of spirit, and horror gripped because they had forsaken His law,we gazed at a world without God...!God help us thus new year or this whole nation will sink into the lowest parts of hell and God would be just in doing so for we deserve nothing less...

Reflecting on this some more brought a few things to mind. That the possibilities are still there. Who of them that heard that night awoke the next morning with perhaps not so much your words but your tears afresh in their minds? More so, what is to stop us from praying that those images, whatever they may be, are once again brought to their recollection? If even the smallest part of my own testimony is adequate, there were those times, those 'divine appointments' if you will, where a saint crossed my heathen path and brought conviction even if it was quickly disposed of, or so I thought...It could well be years from now that it is heard;"One New Years eve I was out partying and these guys were preaching with tears in their eyes and ...."Be encouraged brother and might we all be ever more prayerful, in all things.

Yeah I couldn't agree more. My statment below in no way was a discouragement sigh coming forth out of my heart but rather a breathing out of the desperation of the times we are living in.No doubt a light was seen in the midst of gross darkness otherwise I would have completely despaired and gave up while I was down there. Many things came out of the trip that were a grand blessing. For example what you recollected in your thoughts about this trip actually did happen...Once my friend was done preaching a man who was very opposed to what my friend was preaching, reacted in a strange way once my friend fell apart and fell on his knees to weep and intercede for the crowd. "The man was moved", described one of the precious sister's that was with us "he was astonished that someone would have weep over his soul." Now the precious sister who saw this later saw conviction in the man's eyes and as the crowd dispersed after the countdown our sister ran over and gave him a tract and told him to read it carefully. The respond from the man was that he would do it.So no doubt God worked, and it is amazing that without me sharing this portion of the trip that you, Mike, were able to discern such movements of God even in the midst of my description of desperation. There were other things that Jesus did on this trip that I suppose that even if I were to write down and able to discern from an eternal perspective all the miraculous moves of the Spirit, I suppose that all the posts on sermonindex wouldn't be able to cover them...Ha!:-) God bless.

Thank you for sharing that quote. When we have no agenda other than winning their soul for the kingdom and we confront in tears, that's when we'll see true conversions. Thank you again for sharing this, what a blessing it was to my heart.
