Wouldn't a place like this be wonderful?

I was thinking how great it would be to have a farm where young men could come to find a deeper relationship with God.Their only rent would be to work on the farm, and no TV's or other distractions would be there.It would be great if some spiritual giant would run the place and be able to teach farming and other things used in the Bible for parables and analogies. He could also be a spiritual father to the seekers that come to work there.It seems so hard to find God in the city, and by city I mean, well, it seems almost everywhere is a city nowadays. There are still plenty of rural communities, but many are just about dependant on the Wal-Marts within an hours drive and such. And the TV's & satellites have brought so much worldly culture into even the remote homes.It would be great to just have a place - not some fancy university or cemetary, er, I mean seminary - where instead of finding books about God, God Himself could be found!Then once He is found, the Elijah army can come and topple the altars in the city!

I agree, it would be nice to escape the rat race just to get alone with God. Study, fasting, prayer with no OUTSIDE interuptions...solitude.That would not only be great, it would be a miracle.

The reformation for some reason has neglected this ministry in favor of flashy TV preachers.

The farm idea I have would be temporary. That's where the monastaries fail - they separate themselves from the world and hide their light.The reformation was never meant to be a division but what its title means: a reformation of Catholicism. Luther wanted to cleanse Catholicism not destroy it.I see your point, though, and think there are too many preachers teaching about a God they don't know. Moses withdrew his tent outside the camp...it was then through that separation that he boldly asked God to show him His glory. It was when that glory came down that the men of Israel began to worship God at the mouths of their tents. They didn't doubt Moses knew God - his face even glowed!-Chris

I know it's not quite the same thing, but I've been to a place that's absolutely awesome if you need a good retreat. It's called "The Lord's Land" and is outside of Mendocino, California. It used to be an old hippie commune, but then the owner of the property became a Christian, and turned the place into a Christian retreat. Anyway, all of the cabins are nestled among the woods- no electricity, etc. You can't drive your car up to the cabins or anything. It's very primitave. But the best part, along with being more secluded where you sleep, there are trails that go through the forest that you can just walk along and pray without ever seeing another person. On top of that, there is scripture absolutely everywhere- it's carved on every surface of every cabin, on the trees, on signs...If you ever get a chance to go, I would recommend it. Great place to take a group for a couple of weeks to just "get away from the world" for a while.Grace and Peace...

If you're near Washington D.C. there's a wonderful Christian retreat place. It's a farm and is set up for groups and then set up for a few individuals in small buildings. I've been there twice and last year my wife and in-laws dropped me off. It was a great place to pray and the people were godly.If you're in the Washington D.C. area, drop me a line and I'll provide more information. The cost was very nominal (based solely on an offering). Since my Korean is rather limited and it's pretty much the only language spoken there, it was an interesting few days. :-D
