Is there scriptural advice that at times, it is good for a couple to seperate for a short period of time if the marraige is difficult? I'm not aware of any such scripture.I would suggest if possible that you get away and fast and pray for a few days. There's a wonderful Korean retreat near Fredericksburg MD that you could probably go to pray.If you're not able to get away, I pray that you prayerfully consider an extended fast and more intensive time in the Bible. The purpose of the fast would be to allow the Holy Spirit to focus on your own heart.Sorry I don't have a pat answer but I know that Jesus does and when we wholeheartedly seek Him, we will find Him. I can testify to the fact that I have sought the Lord with all my heart, he's been faithful to not only deal with my heart but my beloved wife as well. Will be praying for you Mike.

Thanks, Hab.I found this passage:1 Corinthians 7 1Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman. 2Nevertheless to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. 3Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence, and likewise also the wife unto the husband. 4The wife hath not power over her own body, but the husband; and likewise also the husband hath not power over his own body, but the wife. 5Defraud ye not one the other, unless it be with consent for a time only, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not through your lack of selfrestraint. 6But I speak this by permission, and not by commandment. What is the Korean place called? I would cross the 301 bridge...

It's called Anna Prayer Mountain. It's located at 7910 Peters Road Frederick, MD (301) 874-2984. The director is a very Godly Presbyterian minister and he officiated my brother-in-law's wedding just about a year ago. It's about 20-25 minutes east of Frederick. They are such precious servants of Jesus, I've never seen such humility of heart. What a glorious time it was.As to the scripture you cited Mike, I don't see the nexus between it and wanting to separate from your wife. I would caution you not to try and find a scripture to give you permission to do what you want to do. That's always a dangerous thing and I've done it a number of times myself and it has result in a woodshed experience.God gets no pleasure of disciplining us but it's sometimes a necessary thing for me (See Hebrews 12). I pray you not end up in the woodshed, God's discipline is a very painful thing.Blessings to you Mike. He can restore your marriage. I'm praying that Jesus will do that and you will know that was only something that He could do.

Mike... a weekend of prayer and fasting is not a bad thing. I would warn against anything longer than that. After that weekend, then you AND your wife need to take a weekend together for prayer and fasting... TOGETHER.I know nothing of your situation, but I do know that marriages do not decline because of the actions of just one partner. IT takes two to tango... right? Well, it takes two to ruin a marriage. But right now I wouldnt concentrate on who is right or wrong. Obedience to God must come first. You need to love your wife as Christ loves the church. Willing to give your life for her if need be.Treat her like a Queen, even if you dont think she deserves it. Fact is tho... if you treat her like a Queen eventually you will begin to see her as one. Your whole perspective will change. And she will change as well. I dont know a single woman who would not respond to being cherished.I hear the excuse all the time that couple get divorced for the good of the kids. I coach football and wrestling... and see the results of this kind of thinking. Probably 60% of the kids I coach come from broken homes. Mom and dad get divorced "for the sake of the kids", so what happens is the kids grow up with no father figure, no mentor. Or if their dad is involved in their lives the kids are dragged from one house to another every other weekend and on holidays. Nothing is stable for them.I can appreciate you seeing that you're not setting a good example for your kids at the moment. I understand that completely. BUT... if you really want to set an example for them that's godly and healthy... treat your wife with forgiveness and kindness. Get your family back on track. Put God back in the center of things.Thats the example they need to see. Please keep in mind that I am NOT scolding you! I'm certainly NOT judging you! I know nothing of your situation. I am merely trying to encourage you to follow God in obedience here.Krispy
