Church in the HOUSE!!!

I am so excited. On January 15, this next Sunday, our church body is going to move into having church in the house. This means that instead of coming to a "church building,” that we will all go to someone’s house. Were going to have 10 different home churches meeting at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday. My parents are one of the elders in our body and lead a home church. This isn't something new because we have always done home church on Wednesday's but now it's on Sunday. God is restoring the church to it's original intent. Nowhere in the bible does it say that the church (which is the body of Christ) met in a building other than each other's houses. It says that they "broke bread together". They knew each other. When you look, it says Saul, when he was persecuting the church, went from "house to house" arresting them. God is doing so much. Revival is here!!!!!I really would like to know who else is doing this, i know that this is going on all around the world.(i strongly recomend the book- HOUSES THAT CHANGE THE WORLD by: wolfgang simpson)

Oh I am so happy for you and your church, yes it's the season to depart from the historic churches and to return to the way it should have been.I was just thinking while typing this that it wasn't just the early church that met in houses but also during the riegn of the Popes in the dark ages that true believers met in homes and perhaps in places that the Roman Catholic church did not know about.Persecution is arisng and my hope is that we will be found ready.But the whole purpose of meeting in homes is that we may get our eyes off of a building and get our eyes on the true building, the body of Christ. And when that happens instead of loving a building we will love one another and it's this love that that will convince the whole world that we are the LORD's disciples. John 13:35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.LS

Hi thereWe here in South Africa has real strong house churches, coming together whenever we feel in doing so, but we do have meetings every Sunday and Wednesday. I was part of two house churches in Cape Town. We all love one another dearly, and is more like a family or then a body. These house churches is about 10 years old or more. We realy share and have input into anothers life just like a real family. I am 23 and the great thing is that there is a lot of young people(real earnest sincere people) involved. It was so that all or lets say most of my reeal friends was part of the house church. I believe we are still learning ourselves and dont in any way believe we are perfect. But that the Lord is loved and do work in and amongst us is a definite.A book I can recommend is: The pilgrim church. I dont know the auther at this moment, but will try to find out for you.God blessLICJanus

You can find The Pilgrim Church by E H Broadbent at Amazon although it is a bit pricey! It is an excellent insight into the kind of church history that often misses the history books. Another book which does the same thing is Torch of the Testimony by J W Kennedy. This is quite a bit cheaper and does the work equally well.Both books trace, not so much 'house churches' as, the independent assemblies of God's people which carried the torch through the centuries.

As a house church advocate myself I am excited to hear about this! Your situation is unique because normally an establish church completely resists the thought of churching in the homes. I applaud your church leadership... sounds like you have some good shepherding going on there!Krispy
