Does God Speak?

Does God speak to his children outside of the scriptures? I am not talking about the audible voice but rather God revealing His will for you from another source other than the Bible?

Does God speak to his children outside of the scriptures? It would be very difficult to fully obey Jesus about specific things the Bible doesn't speak of such as: Go to this place and speak to this person, do this, don't do this, pray about this, etc. unless we heard very specific answers. There are so many stories in the scripture about this happening. Here is one in 1 Samuel 23 and I'm just displaying one verse: "Therefore David enquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And the LORD said unto David, Go, and smite the Philistines, and save Keilah." The difficult part is that I must honestly have no agenda when I come before God because if I do, I will mistake my flesh for His voice, which has happened to me many times. He would never tell me to do anything that was contrary to scripture so I have to test what I hear versus the scripture says and obey the scripture. He speaks not only through the word but also through a quickening within the Spirit. Also through dreams and visions, the Holy Spirit can speak. All these things must be tested because the enemy can counterfeit such things. If we're not hearing from God speak to us in our prayer closet, it's generally due to disobedience. That's what I'm finding in my own walk and when He doesn't speak to me that means there's some sin in my heart that's unconfessed or something He told me to do (or not to do) and I simply refused to obey. There's many examples of this in the scriptures. I would encourage you to search them and to seek an answer in your prayer closet.

Does God speak to his children outside of the scriptures?I would say yes and no. It depends on what you mean by "outside." God will never tell you to do something outside the bounds of scripture or contridicting to it. But yes I would say that God speaks to you in other ways other than straight reading your Bible, as habakkuk3 pointed it.

Brother Conqueror wrote:Does God speak to his children outside of the scriptures? The gifts of the Spirit of the word of knowledge and wisdom are given to those He chooses to accomplish His work. I myself, about 5 years ago was spending what seemed to be too much time researching political economics of the world. I was driven. At one point I became frustrated with all this evil that I was beginning to understand. At that moment of frustration I prayed to God, "Am I wasting my time on learning about the corrupt things of this world?" What seemed like only moments after thinking this prayer, one word filled my mind, "linked." At that moment I understood a historical relationship between the policy of the United States and its pursuits to destroy Commumism, the trade protectionist policies of the Reagan Administration, and the root of Reagan's Star Wars program. Also the decline of the Japanese stockmarket back in 1989 from 36000 down to 8000 was a result of the end of the Cold War. All these things I learned brought me to a clearer understanding of the fruits that come from the love of mammon. I understand more of the substance of the things that this world hope for and what it is willing to do to acquire the substance of their hopes. Is. 30:28 \tHis breath is like an overflowing stream,\tWhich reaches up to the neck,\tTo sift the nations with the sieve of futility;\tAnd there shall be a bridle in the jaws of the people,\tCausing them to err. Does a father speak to his children in just letter? Or in word, hints, signs as well. (and anything else you can come up with)

There is a link on the left for free bible college... they actually have a course called "Knowing God's Voice"... it talks about "logos" (the written Word of God) and "rhema" (the living or life-giving Word of God)... a "rhema" Word may be communicated through a sermon or a verse from the Bible that suddenly strikes you with great meaning. God may speak it to you through the use of spiritual gifts; the Lord may also speak it in your inner spirit. The "rhema" Word will always agree with the written Word of God..My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. (John 10:27) (This is the first scripture they give to memorize).Hope this helps..
