Below is something I wrote for another board. Thought I would share here as well. You can kinda skip over the apology part...*****************************First the apology I have been going through a spiritually dry funk the past month and a half. Been dealing with some things in my life that I thought were dead and buried. My old nature had been trying to push its way back into my life and I let my defenses down. Part of that old nature is a tendency to be condescending to people or just plain disregarding someones feelings. So, if there has been any remarks by me made to anyone on this board whose feelings I have hurt recently then I humbly ask for your forgiveness. Now...on to my ramblings. This spiritually dry funk that I have been in...this feeling of seperation and the lack of victory over sin in my life left me for awhile doubting my salvation, that the victory originally given to me when I was saved last year didn't last and even started thinking that maybe it was possible that that eternal security of the believer was not quite so "eternal". You should read my journal. Its so pathetic how whiny I got Anyway, a few days ago I think the Holy Spirit revealed to me some of the nature of the Lords character. For some reason driving to work and then home from work the nature of the character of God started running through my mind. I had read Tozer's book on the subject months ago but on that trip to and from work I finally "got it". Hit me like a load of bricks. If you read Tozer's book on the subject this may sound familiar...his thoughts and my thoughts are mingled together. I am not going to reference any scripture. The below attributes of God are clearly represented throughout scripture and even a Sunday School kid would agree concernng them. I won't be going through every attribute...only the ones that were revealed to me to move me out of the funk. God is....-Immutable. He is unchanging-Omniscient - He is all knowing-Omnipresent - He is everywhere...in every space, inside and outside of time. What you have to realize about the attributes of God is that each attribute is really not a seperate attribute. They are all connected...all tied together. For instance...God is unchangeable. He cannot be changed nor does he change. Therefore his attributes do not change. His omnipotence for instance. His omnipotence is unchanging. He is as powerful now as he ever was. he is as powerful as he ever will be. To believe otherwise would mean that God can change. To state that God can change would mean that there was something about God that needed to change. To say that God needed to change means there was something about that God that was insufficient. To state that there is something about God that is insufficient would mean that God is not God at all. He would end up being just a person influenced by his surroundings. Ok, so all his attributes are tied together. Lets look at three other of his attributes. God is....LovingMercifulGraceTake in hand what you know of the first three attributes I mentioned and these three attributes and how they are all tied together and you may begin to see how this affected me. 1) Gods love is unchanging. There is nothing that I can ever do to change that. To think that I could sin enough to make God no longer love me is to attack the very character of God himself. To say that I can change God's love for my by sin would be to say that I can change God himself. 2) Gods mercy is also unchanging. He is everwhere, and there is no point in hiding from him. Knowing that God's mercy is the same today and forever and the futility of trying to hide...well, you get the picture. 3) God's grace is all knowing! God is inside and outside of time. He knows all and sees all and everything is in his hand. When I was saved by his grace it covered all my sins, past and future. When I was saved God saw into my future and saw that there would be times of disobedience, times where I run and times where I get bogged down with sin and guilt. Yet, He took my sins upon him and saved me anyway. I am Peter who rejected Christ. We all know that Christ knew that Peter was going to reject him...but that never once changed Christ's love. I can never surprise God...and how arrogant of me to think I could. To ever believe that I could do anything to change God's love for me, to believe that God's salvation, his gift of grace, was not enough to cover my sins, past present and future, to ever doubt the mercy of God.......is to attack the very character of God.
