Hi Gery: I saw the movie twice and really liked it. It actually took me two times to figure out the escatological meaning of the movie. What was confusing to me was the fact that after the Crucifixion Aslan destroys the devil, and crowns man over His Kingdom, and then leaves the scene.In the movie Satan has been eliminated.From a Biblical perspective I know that this event (the elimination of Satan) does not take place until the end of the 1,000 year reign of Christ on this earth when Christ releases Satan one last time to deceive the nations. He releases Satan from the bottomless pit (He placed him [Satan] in the pit at His second coming to the earth, at the end of the Tribulation. Rev. 20:1-3 describes this event:"Revelation 20 1. And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. 2. And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, 3. And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.")In Revelation chapter 20 7-10 shows us that Satan is finally dealt the critical blow that casts him to hell forever: "7. And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, 8. And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog, and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. 9. And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. 10. And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever."xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxThe movie's escatology (understanding of end time events) differs from that of the Bible. The Bible tells us that after the crucifixion and resurrection Jesus has returned to Heaven to sit at the right hand of the Father (God) and make intercession for us. It further tells us that he will return to this earth again in His physical, resurrected body to rule and reign for 1,000 years. At the end of 1,000 years Satan and sinful man are finally dealt with once and for all and He then creates a new heaven and a new earth and we (believers in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior) will live with Him forever in our resurrected, glorified bodies.xxxxxxxxThe movie has the mistaken notion that once Christ was crucified and resurrected from the dead, that he empowered man to bring in the Kingdom. Satan has already been vanquished at the Cross, and is out of the way.Just by looking at current events, we can see that the above escatology is in error. There have been more wars in the 20th century than all of the wars in the history of the world. If I was not told the symbolism of the film before-hand I would probably not have received that much, but with the knowledge of the witch being the devil, Adam's race being the human race and the lion symbolizing the Lion of Judah- Our Lord Jesus, it was really a blessing.Would like to hear the opinion of others who saw it.
