Gift of healing

I was reading on another post and there Chris mentioned the gift of healing which brings me to this question: Is this gift exercised or present in your community? Several years ago I compiled a genealogy book of my mother's family. To do this I interviewed a lot of old people and recorded their stories, so half of the text consists of oral history. Anyhow, in doing so, I discovered this gift was present in in this IN community. There were two men who had this gift, one whose name was Enos. When someone was sick, they went to him or got him to lay hands on the sick person and that person got well without any medical attention. There was no hocus-pocus or ritual involved. Prayer, yes, but that is all.Now the other man had this gift but was very reluctant to use it and refused to do so, so he died very young, leaving behind a widow with quite a few children. People believed he died because he refused to exercise the divinely endowed gift....said he did not want to be bothered !!Enos never participated in any public healings or campaigns. It was done in the presence of the friends or relatives who brought the sick to him. The time frame I am talking about would be in the 1900s. I never knew Enos personally (he was married to my mom's aunt) although I went to his viewing when he died as an old man and that was in 1960, I think. Today, I am not aware of this gift present or exercised in any community....Do you? (I separate this from the ritual of the annointing of oil for the sick as James 5:14 talks about.) ginnyrose

hi,there have been many used by God to pray for the halt,lame and sick successfully. in almost all occasions these men and women acceped credit and wealth and fame. remember the giver is God and the receiver is the sick person. never give any credit to the conduit.jimp

The Scriptures does say the God will not share his glory with another...Even if the above is some speculation, I think it is an excellent consideration. When many national "ministries" are really just self-promotion marketing firms...the profiteering from such demonstrative miracles is an ever present danger. Ginnyrose's ocmment reminds me of an account of a conversation between St. Francis and Pope Innocent III. The story goes that when St. Francis was trying to gain permission to start his monastic order, the Pope took him on a tour of the Vatican treasures.During the tour, the Pope commented wryly to Francis, "No more can Peter say 'Silver and gold have I none.'"Francis replied, "...and neither can he say "Rise up and walk."MC
