I have convictions on this but I try to keep an open mind...I think this is a question many want to know??If someone says they are a chrsitian...ie they asked God to forgive them...they go to church every Sunday...they listen to christian music all the time...good morals....but they have No desire to read the bible and or very little praying and the only praying is before a meal...doesnt witness to others about Jesus...Is this person a christian????

Jhn 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.1Cr 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.Jam 1:12 Blessed [is] the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.Jam 2:5 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?

Green,So you dont think God wont give us "discerment who serveth Him and who serveth Him not"???Heres part of my thinking....Jesus is the WORD...well, who is the WORD=Jesus!!... If someone says I love Jesus but have no interest in the WORD or find the WORD boring...now they just said they love Jesus?? We cant sperate the two or can we?? 1+1=2 ;-)

Greenquality wrote:Only God judges the heart.I'm curious. Does God only judge the heart? Or the whole person? Are actions not a manifestation of the heart?Mat 16:27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works. Eph 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.Rev 2:23 And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works. Rev 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is [the book] of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. 1Cr 3:13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. Was Paul wrong in saying this?1Cr 5:3 For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, [concerning] him that hath so done this deed, 1Cr 5:4 In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, 1Cr 5:5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. EDIT:Or Jesus commanding this?Jhn 7:24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.

Brent, I would caution you here. I think we all go thru times when our time with God is dry. When prayers don't seem to come. When we sit and read scripture only to find out we've been reading for 20 minutes and cant remember anything we just read. You cant tell if someone is saved or not based on that. Even the great preachers like Wesley and Spurgeon talked about how they struggled at times with this very thing. There is another thread going today that talks about a friend who claims to be a Christian but not only doesn't have any interest in the things of God, but is also living in blatent unrepentent sin. We can determine that this friend is not truly saved... for the result of being saved is what? REPTENTANCE. No repentance? Not saved. Very simple. But just because someone is in a drought spiritually does not mean they are not saved. And since we can not lose our salvation (if we are truly saved), then this person is still saved. The key is "truly saved". Thanx to "easy believism" there will be a lot of people on Judgement Day who think they are saved that will be a bit shocked.Krispy

Brent, I would caution you here.Very true. We have to check our motives of why we would want to make a judgment. Paul made one in hope that the rebel would repent and come to Jesus and to save that church from being 'leavened.'If a person does go to church and has no prayer life or anything. I would just keep talking to them about Jesus. They will either catch the fire or 'burn out.'

I agree with you guys. Let me further our thinking.... Krisp mentioned a drougtht but what if that "drought" is years & years??? "As newborn babes desire the sincere milk of the Word..." Ok, even a newborn will desire milk. I look at this as a natural appetite. What about Comforts "true & false conversions" sermon??

sermonindex Mar 1, 2006

Again, I dont think we can judge that. But for the person, I would suggest that they really examine their heart. Have you really been saved? Etc... Thats a question only they can answer. Thats a question I find myself asking myself all the time.Krispy

BrentW, I know exactly where you are coming from. For me, it was right after I "woke up" from a long period of complacency with Christ and had just gotten a fire for God. I think that any person who has no desire to read the bible or pray has some serious issues concerning his/her relationship with God.However, I would shy away from thinking they are not Christians. It is true that Christians struggle and go through dry patches in our walk with the Lord. However, true Christians will not stay in this state...God will bring us out.I would recommend that you encourage this brother or sister to read and pray more. The more they read the bible and pray the more God will draw them back. Hey, it worked in my life!

I agree that we can't see a pesons heart. But we CAN be FRUIT INSPECTORS. And if a persons fruit STINKS :-? ??????? "Ye shall know them by their fruit"

It's very possible that they are. It may be rare, but some people don't "wake up" to certain things until sometime down the road. For example the lack of desire to read the bible. A friend of mine who became a believer couldn't read the bible as he was illiterate. With the ability of the LORD he was able to read the Good News Bible. He has great faith, and has moved in the gifts of the Spirit, but this reading the bible discouraged him because he lacked the education.Just my input.

Brent,I got this in my email this evening and thought of your post. Here is the link:http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2006/003/21.112.html Hope you find this article challenging. Now to answer your question, I do not know that answer, but it is an issue we need to guard ourselves against. We can so easy become lukewarm and Jesus says he will spit you out if become like that. I suppose if you would do what Mr. Yancey did it would go a long way to prevent lukewarmness.ginnyrose

This is going to be hard to do but give it some thought and think of a newborn baby in it helpless selfish state. Learn to accept all who profess Christ by "Faith". Now having said that you then become a fruit inspector, example, the word says to mark an angry man and have nothing to do with him, that's an easy principle to apply in your walk but I'd never publically denounce anothers profession of faith, let the day declare it in due course, you just pray for them and be a wise sower of the seed(word of God) into thier life, you'll be blessed by it :-)

But we CAN be FRUIT INSPECTORS. And if a persons fruit STINKS Mat 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Mat 7:16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Mat 7:18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. This has nothing to do with being busy with others matters, it refers to false prophets.Do your own fruit inspections.Mat 7:3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

sermonindex Mar 3, 2006

Do your own fruit inspecting Let me explaine why I said that, and it does not apply to new christians. I'll use this person who is a regular 911 caller. Yes, we see him alot. He's a drug seeker and he fakes chest pain because he thinks we'll give him morophine. So he calls the ambulance to take him to the E.R., hoping to get a prescription for pain pills and a quick shot of the good stuff. He is a known dealer and has been in and out of jail for possession and distribution of drugs several times. He'll sale it to your son or daughter, he don't care. He was once the largest drug dealer in Etowah county for prescription drugs. We were called to his house last week because he was stabbed in the head three times by his son who HE was trying to beat up after a drunken rampage. I was exposed to hepatitis and he did'nt have the decency to warn me or my partner. He tried to kill himself just recently by injesting boric acid. He's had his guts blown out once by another dealer, and we brought him back from deaths door. He had a massive heart attack recently because of the lifestyle that he lives. He's an alcholholic and a junky. His mouth is so vulgar I have to make him stay silent if I have a female partner with me. He uses Gods name like it's a four letter filth word. And to top all that he gets in the back of my ambulance and says "I can't wait to see my sweet Jesus." It kinda turns my stomach. Yes, I've witnessed to him. Yes, I've prayed for him. He says he's saved and on his way to glory. If he is a prodical son, it should make headline news when he comes back to God. I hope he is, but, I have my doubts. See what I'm saying? Is it wrong to make those observasions, especially when others who are NOT christians are asking YOU questions? :-(
